After you go through one of the red key doors, and up a set of stairs,
check out the lamp burning on the right, and look through the window
just past that lamp after you figure it out. _RUN_ through the window.

92.3 | Try this... | RT93::MCDONALDJ | Wish I were here... | Wed Oct 19 1994 09:58 | 10 |
| There's also another way to do it that I find easier. From the main
hall (where you appeared), turn left, then right. You'll be facing a
wall with a window on your right. If you go out of the window and jump
onto the balcony to your left, you're in a small room. The wall between
the small room and the main hall is a door that is tied into
another door that will get you to the laser gun room. If you trigger
this door and run straight ahead, you'll fall into this room.

| This gave me a lot of grief last night. In fact, I discovered that if
one presses <space-bar> in front of either of the two lamps, the wall
between the 'balcony' room and the main hall is lowered. Running
through the window and through the door is very difficult, but
possible. However, of course it means that the 'laser gun' room door is
closed by the time one gets through! However, on entering the 'balcony'
room through the window, the door can be lowered by <space-bar>, and of
course, it's possible to run across the main hamm to the 'laser gun'
room.
I suppose the lamps' switches are there as a red herring, but it does
make me wonder if there are any others I've never bothered to try.
Cheers, Laurie.

| I just got Doom II for Christmas, and I am proud to say that I stumbled
onto the lamp trick myself (totally by chance of course).
Anyway, you definitely _can_ use the lamp to lower the door, then run
through the window and still make it to the secret room in time to get
in. That's the only way I've done it.
I'm still confused, though, because I still don't have 100% secrets on
this level. Looking at the map I can't see anything obvious places
that need further exploring.
Here's a question...You know in the big room where the exit door
is? Is there a way to get into the two large side rooms where the
Cacodemons come from? I can't figure out how to get in there. I don't
know if it matters, but I pushed the button that raises the walkway to
the exit door before I jumped down into the pit to kill the two
Specters that are down there. Should I have jumped down there first
to have a look around before raising the walkway?

| I think I remember where you are... Yes, there is a way.
Spoiler
In fact, what appears to be two rooms is one, linked at the back,
behind the exit. It is very difficult to get there, and involves
running and jumping across one of the pits. I used the right-hand side
one, but I can't remember if it really matters. You might find
something interesting behind the exit... ;^)
Cheers, Laurie.
