The beta of 1.5 has been out of fair while now, I've tried getting it
on a couple of occasions but my ftp sessions just died on me. In hind
sight it is a bit of a blessing...
There have been several problems reported with it, the main one being
the selection and use of weapon 3, the shotgun, it seems that ID put
the weapon from DOOM II in by accident and this causes the game to
crash.
FWIW I'll try and pull the files down again and post a note if I have
any luck.

| I checked the ftp site on ftp.uwp.edu in the id subdirectory and all I
saw was the 1.2 stuff. My understanding is that that site is the
"official" id site.
Where is everyone seeing these other updates and what's the latest on a
new release?

Rick, The current 'in' place for ID stuff seems to be
infant2.sphs.indiana.edu

| The first "official" Doom FTP site was ftp.uwp.edu, however that
is how Hank Leukart defined them. Hank is the writer of the Doom
FAQ and seems to have direct ties with id Software.
Also included in the "official" list are infant2.sphs.indiana.edu
and wuarchive.wustl.edu because all three tend to have almost the
same files, with only a few differences.

Status of DOOM---Updated: Mon, July 25th 6:09pm
The latest patch for Registered/Shareware DOOM is: 1.1 to 1.2
The latest version of Registered DOOM is: 1.2
The latest version of Shareware/Beta DOOM is: 1.5
The next patch for Registered/Shareware DOOM will be: 1.5
There is NO version 1.3.
There is a 1.4 beta and a 1.5 beta.
Version 1.4 is available from ftp.uwp.edu and infant2.sphs.indiana.edu.
It is a beta shareware version. There is NO PATCH to 1.4.
We are still waiting on the sound code. There are a few little bugs in
it still that HAVE to be fixed before we release the patch. We know
(I know really well) how impatient some of you are getting. There is
still no firm date on a release. As soon as our sound code guy is
finished the patch will be sent out. There will probably be a 1.6 BETA
version, and then a few days after that we will release the 1.7 patch.
