| I am a shot-gun fanatic, but like the following:
Soldiers: (Who cares?)
Sarg's: Shot gun (One shot usually works)
Imps: Shot gun (very close, one, anything more, two shots, or a
burst with the chaingun)
Spectres/Warthogs: Two good shots with the shot gun, I prefer the
chaingun with these guys.
Cacodemons: Chaingun, shotgun if I have ammo and a place to hide.
Barons: Missle Launcher (some times two works)
Cyber Demons: I just shoot what I got with those bad boys. I have no
idea how many shots it takes to bring one down.
Spidermon: Ditto Cyberdemon...

Naah. The Spiderdemon can be killed with 3 BFG9000 shots; the Cyber is a
bit tougher.
The faq shows the following table of hit values:
(10-5): How powerful is the ammunition?
=======================================
1 Ammo = 1 point of damage
1 Shotgun = 7 points (fires 7 pellets at 1 point per
pellet) (not every pellet will hit every
target)
1 Berserk = 10 points
1 Cell (Plasma Rifle) = 2 points
1 Rocket = * 20 points
1 BFG9000 = * 50 points
*: Rockets and BFG9000 shots have an area effect. The direct hit values
are given above.
.--------------------------------------------.
| Chapter [10-7] Chart |
| Ultra-Violence Mode |
|--------------------------------------------|
| Monster | AMMO | SHOT | ROCK | CELL | 9000 |
|--------------------------------------------|
| Human | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Sergeant| 3 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 |
| Imp | 6 | 1 | 1 | 3 | 1 |
| Demon | 14 | 3 | 1 | 7 | 1 |
| Spectre | 14 | 3 | 1 | 7 | 1 |
| Souls | 10 | 2 | 1 | 5 | 1 |
| Cacodmn.| 36 | 6 | 2 | 18 | 1 |
| Barons | 100 | 15 | 5 | 50 | 1 |
| Cyberdm.| 400 | 58 | 20 | 200 | 4 |
| Spider | 300 | 43 | 15 | 150 | 3 |
`--------------------------------------------'
I've seen a Baron die after 12 shots in lesser modes, so at easier levels
the amount of ammo is needed; let's say the Spiderdemon is 75% of the
Cyberdemon; I note, surprisingly that I didn't realize it was that high;
I thought it was considerably weaker.
The difference is that the Spider doesn't have as heavy a level of
firepower as the Cyber.

| Wow, I put a Cyberdemon in the opening E1 L4, protecting the area
that leads to the nazi swastika that lowers in the blue room, and
I have tried to kill him from across the slime and from the other
side of the maze, and can't do it.
(I have made the WAD with enough ammo, and plenty of "blurs" and one
"Invinsible", but haven't been able to do it yet.)
I made one tough wad, though, I added three barons, thirty SGTs, and
numerous IMPS and Camcodemons...

| Comments on this amazing new "Super-Shotgun" then? What's it good for
killing? What's it useless at? Is it worth it? I've seen Doom II
running and it looks quite good (the gun, that is) ..... does it make a
worth while successor to the good old faithful pump action?!

its great for the pink demon things. sometimes takes one out with one
shot. other than that, i find it a waste of ammo... oh, its also good
for those floating eyes if you have plenty of time and a clear target

great for single shots but the rate of fire is too low to make it

| The dbl barrel shotgun does go through the ammo quickly, however, I
have used it often when encountering several enimies at once; like
three imps or mutants in a hall. Its tooo cool to see one shot lift all
three of em off their feet and layed to waste. Also, less accuracy is
needed when taking out an opponent; useful on those chaingun toting
mutants that catch you of guard and raise the ol' pulse.

I like it, however the reload is unrealistic. It happens way to fast.
Of course all those StimPaks don't help either.

| Well let's face it, one the weapons/taking damage front the whole of
Doom is pretty unrealistic....
With full armour and health you can survive a rocket blast... not that
I mind of course ;-) !!
Still I like the sound of this double-barrel super shotgun thingy....
for those extra special moments!

the dbl-shotgun, (called SUPER SHOTGUN when you pick it up) is
great, albeit she DOES chew up the ammo.... But! Press 3 get the
super-shotgun, press 3 again, get the pump....
If you're trying to avoid using IDKFA, then you'd use
the pump shotgun as your meat-n-potatoes weapon....
However, once you run into the Chain-gun toting Fu-man-chu
guys, you'll want to be taking them out with the dbl-barrel.
These mutha's have an attitude,, but fall to the dbl-barrel
right quick...
Then again, the rocket-spitting skeletons require a weapon of
a much higher calibre.... Can you say BMG9000?
DOOM ][ is one NASTY game... I'll be dropping the coin on the
register version.,.. absolutely...

if you think the rocket spitting skeletons are bad (i use rockets on
them), wait till you see the flame shooting ghoul!

Yes. Bad dude. Does a right nice move before he waxes you. I ran into
him and just danced around a while cause I liked his attitude.

| seems as though the Barons of Hell aren't quite as hard
to kill in DOOM ][ Used to take 5 solid rocket hits to bring
one down,, now it seems 3 direct hits melts em... they're
a little different looking in DOOM ][ as well...

66.14 | Hell Knights | CHUCK::OTOOLE | I never drive faster than I can see | Thu Oct 06 1994 16:48 | 10 |
| The Documentation notes the new "Hell Knights", slightly weaker than the
Barons (i.e., easier to kill). Differentiated by a slight color change in
the sprite.
Now, my experience so far is that, while weaker, they tend to hang around
together (first time I saw one, he had 3 buddies).
Oh yeah, the original Baron is there too and hasn't lost a step.

Hi all,
Well, to get back to talking about WEAPONS, what do you all like
in deathmatch sessions?
I personally like fists/chainsaw, shotgun, chaingun and plasma
rifle.
The super shotgun of Doom2 is a double edged sword... It really
can take someone out at 200% health and 200% armor in like
three shots... I hate it because the hit is so hard it
knocks your vision out...
The rocket launcher launches too fast for the amount of damage
you can sustain. Really not very fair.
The BFG9000 is cool but just totally useless becuase of its slow
firing rate, I have more than once pressed the fire button
moved and had the shot go some where else... I think if they
made the fire rate quick the the shot travel slow it would
have been better...
Your comments?
Bye,
Mike.

Now I'm into Doom a little more the SSG gets my vote as best all
rounder. The BFG is a waste of space - takes the fun out of the game
as well. 2nd comes Rocket launcher.
I'm not a fan of - Beserker or the Chainsaw. With Beserker I always
find it in the most in opportune places and I don't really want to get
that close to the 'Oinks in the game anyway.

66.17 | Kojak meets Chainsaw | VEGMIT::LAXTON | | Tue Jan 09 1996 22:04 | 15 |
| I've found that the chainsaw is a must for killing the Kojaks (pink piggy
things) and the invisible Kojaks. Especially in DoomII when ammo is scarce
playing at UV level. You must back yourself into a corner or an alcove so that
they cant get behind you but it sure saves lots of ammo. It can even be used on
the Niki Lauda's if you've got a good spot to sit. It seemed like I had to worry
about ammo a lot more in DoomII and I wouldn't have made it through some levels
without saving ammo by using the chainsaw.
The BFG is not completely useless, it can be useful in some cases, like when you
trip a switch and the room fills up with monsters of all types. You must time it
right though, otherwise you'll be dead before the thing fires!
All the weapons have their place but generally the shotgun is a good all rounder.

| I like the Shotgun in DOOM II when you get both change back to
the normal one and hold the fire button down & it fires shells
like a Machine gun.
