| Try the BARN3D2A.ZIP on SHUVVA::DKB0:[DOOM.GRAPHICS]. It's about the
best Barney patch I've seen...
And it's got all the nasty stuff to do the patching...

58.2 | BARN3D2A installed, but no Barneys! | BRAT::UIDIOT::Smith | Never say never, I always say. | Fri Jun 24 1994 10:11 | 17 |
| re: -.1
Geoff, I installed BARN3D2A and after doing many things
it said, New Sound, Graphics, etc. were successfully
installed. However, when I ran Doom, all the mutant
soldiers, imps, etc., were all the same. I thought all the
"baddies" were going to be Barneys.
When I viewed some of the GIF files that the Install
created in that new directory, it seemed to be just one
creature in different positions. Does this Barney program
just convert one main boss to a Barney, or are all the
"baddies" supposed to be Barneys?
Thanks, Mike.

| RE: -.1
Nope, only the Hell Baron gets changed to a Barney, everything else
stays the same. Also, if you type 'iddqd' to get God Mode, your
face will turn into Barney's (not *your* face, the one at the
bottom of the screen).

| Does the Barney in BARN3D2A.ZIP end up looking grey when he shows up
in DOOM like the previous BARNEY3D.ZIP file?
The one I tried, he was drawn in purple, but ended up all grey when
running Doom because the palette was chosen wrong for the .GIFs that
make up the different Barney frames. It got mapped to the doom palette
which has a lot of greys.
BTW, I changed the installation bat file to replace the Imp creature
with Barney instead of the Baron. Worked pretty good except the
monsters don't quite match up in the way they're rotated, and he
winds up doing the "moon walk". :')

Barney is just a replacement graphic for one of the mosters, most of
the patches replace the Hell Baron with graphics of Barney although
I believe this can be changed.

| Barney is a children's character along the lines of Sesame Street's Big
Bird, etc. He's a large purple dinosaur. He sings silly songs like "I
love you, you love me, let's live together happily...." or something
like it. My children, especially the 2 year old loves Barney and can
pick him out at extended ranges. There is a *slew* of marketing behind
him - stuffed animals, videos, etc. This has given rise to the Barney
counter-culture, mainly parents, that sport bumper stickers like, "I
accelerate for dinosaurs" and "Eat more dinosaur". I would think that
some member of the counter culture had some fun patching in Barney, the
nice, gentle dinasaur into Doom. Then he shows what real dinosaurs
can do.....

RE: -.1
What you really missed about Barney is that, unlike Sesame Street,
NO one over 13 can watch the show and become instantly sick...
Barney & Friends is overly childish and saccharine sweet to the
point of where you can understand why there is just so many
people who _hate_ him... Listening to him is like listening
to someone scratch their finger nails on a chalkboard, it (he)
makes your skin crawl.
The show is definetly aimed at young kids, and not their parents.
It's not a show that parents and their children can sit down
and watch together.
Or so, this is what I got out of the article in TV Guide a while
back...
Me, personally, I can't stand him... And, I guess I'm not alone...
Grins,
Mike.

| For those of you hell-bent (pardon the pun) on knowing more about
(or wanting to flame) B------, you should check out a USENET news
group called alt.dinosaur.barney.die.die.die, or alt.spam ...
they seem to be linked for some odd reason...

You point out well the nausea factor. Just for the record, I do not
let my children watch him every day. Turns the screen purple....

| I've been looking for a (the?) Barney WAD file for weeks now - can't find
anything out on the I-way on infant2 (the official distr. point for
wad-stuff). I looked for BDOOM.ZIP and BARN*.zip.
A few months ago I saw a version of DOOM running at a local COMP-USA store
where Barney was the replacement character for the minotaur character that
comes running up the long narrow corridors at you.
I tried to connect to SHUVVA as listed here in .2 or so, but I can't get a
connect to it.
Anyone have this wad file available where I could copy it to my node?
Thanks,
Al
