Sorry, but I've removed the file from that location, I am currently
setting up a large repository of Doom files on one of my machines
so that those who don't have access to FTP can still get everything.
The location of this is:
SHUVVA::DKB0:[DOOM]
There are a variety of subdirectories already in place and hopefully
I will be able to keep all of the files up to date. Should there be
anything that people find missing or corrupted then please contact me
on the address above.
Enjoy,
-John.

It's, like, totally bogus, dude.
The X port(s) of Doom support pixel doubling/tripling/quadrupling for
big monitors, but it's still only mode 13h resolution (320x200x256).

| RE: v1.8 patch...
Okay, downloaded this about a week ago, installed it and started
playing co-op mode with my friend. I haven't noticed any major
differences from v1.666 but, in E2M4 or M7 we couldn't find
the exit. I managed to find a map and it showed a secret
area that we hadn't got to but we couldn't figure it out.
I even went all over the entire level while he watched to
see if anything triggered it. Could Id have accidentally
edited it or am I just lost in hell?
BTW, playing the original DOOM was much more fun than DOOM2.
However, the designers seem to feel to make something
harder you just put more of your tougher monsters together.
Episode 2 is a perfect example... In Episode 1 you eventually
face two Barons of Hell in E2 AND E3 there's at least two
per level!
Bye,
Mike.

I'm playing DOOM v1.2 , registered version, and I would like

I looked on FLYTE and found the .ZIP to jump from 1.666 to 1.8,

Any help would be appreciated.

I found a DM1666R.ZIP but the description file talks about a patch
to E3M9 sector error. Is it just what I've to expect , to have 1.2

OR this is a patch to an existing 1.666 bug ?
Cheers.

It would seem that DM1666_A.ZIP has gone missing (part 1 of 2).
You could try DOOM16BT.ZIP;1 in the same directory, this upgrade 1.4 to
1.666b (beta version) which might suffice.
Can anyone remember if there were any problems with the beta release of
1.666 ?
You could always try it.

Oh c'mon, dude, it's not that difficult to figure out!
Try:
$ DIR FLYTE::USER1:[ARCHIVE.DOOM.MISC]/SINCE
to get everything uploaded/modified today (fairly safe assumption). Then you
can figure it out by decoding the filenames...
D2_19PAT.ZIP D2 = Doom2 19PAT = 1.9 patch
DM19RPAT.ZIP DM = Doom 19RPAT = 1.9 registered version patch
DM19SPAT.ZIP DM = Doom 19SPAT = 1.9 shareware version patch
and if you still need to know, then type out the TXT files...
D2_19PAT.TXT;2 This file patches Doom II V1.7a to V1.9It will not patch
any other versions.
DM19RPAT.TXT;3 This file patches Doom V1.666 registered to V1.9 It will
not work with any other version.
DM19SPAT.TXT;3 This file patches Doom V1.666 shareware to V1.9 It will

56.32 | Changes in patch | BAHTAT::HILTON | Beer...now there's a temporary solution | Wed Feb 15 1995 10:28 | 54 |
|
Off t'net:
Article 302 of rec.games.computer.doom.announce:
I've compiled a list of changes to the Doom I and II levels made by
the 1.9 patch. I don't have the time or inclination right now to make
an exhaustive list of changes, so I'll be brief.
The only Doom I level that changed was E3M9. They fixed the bug that
caused the game to crash. Get the shotgun, then go back to the door
north of the starting area. To the northeast is a door to an area with
imps and cacodemons. Walk down to where the monsters are. The game
used to crash here, but it doesn't anymore. (BTW, did anyone else
notice the BFG and radiation suit southwest of the shotgun? They are
revealed after you try to take the fake exit teleporter.)
The following Doom II levels were the only ones that changed.
MAP01, MAP02: Everything in these maps was moved a certain distance, to make
everything have coordinates closer to (0, 0). This shouldn't
affect gameplay much, except for small movements (16 units or less)
of things relative to other things, possibly caused by roundoff
error. Demos no longer work.
MAP03: I didn't make a complete list of changes to this map,
but I did notice that there is another secret door. In the northeast
area, which you hit the switch that raises the walkway that leads north
to a teleporter, a secret door opens in the southwest corner of the
pool. There's a backpack behind it. When you hit this switch, it also
opens a door in the starting area, behind the door that opens when
you get the blue armor. It contains a teleporter to the backpack just
mentioned.
MAP05: I didn't make a complete list of changes to this map, but I did
notice that when you go down the lift east of the starting area, you can
now get back up again; the lift lowers when you approach it from the
east.
MAP11: I didn't make a complete list of changes to this map, but I did
notice that it's easier to get to the exit. As before, there's a
switch you have to hit which lets you take the passage north of the
circle; this passage leads to the exit. When you hit the switch now,
it also lowers a walkway which lets you easily walk to the passage north
of the circle, rather than having to jump.
MAP31: There are four secrets now. No goodies have been added, but
existing hidden areas have been marked secret.
MAP32: There are six secrets now. No goodies have been added, but
existing hidden areas have been marked secret.

I'm a major fan of the Alien films and I wish someone could expand on
the Aliens patch to really make it something. I'd also like to see
another Aliens film - ok so Weaver's dead but how do we know that when
the escape pod was ejected right at the beginning of the film (due to
fire) that the fire was put out by the sprinklers (it was only a little
fire) and thus the ship survived and is now roaming around in space
with a couple of Alien Pods on it waiting for some unsuspecting future
hero to stumble across it.
What do yer reckon ?......Do I get the film rights ?

I need to upgrade a registered version of DOOM 1 v1.2 to v1.666, the
only file relevant to this purpose, as far as I know, is dm1666rp.zip.
I have pulled all other likely looking .TXT files and am sure that what I

is that someone has a private copy hiding behind some cobwebs in their

DM1666_B.ZIP is useless without DM1666_A.ZIP. The two files make up one

[Patch v.1666] Bug fix - is it required?
v1.666 - v1.9 Using DM19RPAT.ZIP

Do I need the patch to v1.666 or is it included in v1.9?
Where can I find the v1.2 - v1.666 upgrade, it doens't appear to be
on GOEDUX::PCDOOM:?
Is v1.9 a good version for network play?
Is this a good strategy, or should I stop before v1.9?

| I've just been thru the upgrade path for DOOM 2 and have found that you
need to install each patch, in turn, or else the next will abort. This
probably means that you'll need to be able to patch to 1.666. Sorry I
can't be much more help than that. I'd like to patch up to 1.9 of DOOM
myself but I'm taking a breather after upgrading to DOOM 2 1.9. I can't
speak for DOOM 1 but DOOM 2 1.9 also included some changes to the modem
config file to improve/fix some of the init strings so for network play
I'd say definitely do 1.9.

I tried the reinstall approach, but something seems to be wrong
somewhere, I'm getting a 'file not found' error on the upgrade.
Laurie, do you still have the v1.2 to v1.666 upgrade available as per
replies .44 thru .46?
Cheers,
Ian

| As it happens, having given up on the original poster/requestor ever
contacting me, I almost deleted this on Friday during my weekly
house-keep. Luckily for you, I didn't! Where would you like it?
It's: DM1666RP.ZIP;1 1505/1506 9-DEC-1994 17:16:00.00
Cheers, Laurie.
PS. After this copy, it goes; I need the space.

A simple copy to default decnet account on MOEUR6 will suffice, thanks.

If you make these files available to me, I can put them on BANDI for
all to access. I've been trying to contact Jamie BADMAN since last week,
but his node is always unreachable. Jamie, if you see this, please send
me MAIL to arrange for your WADs to be added to the archive.

John,
I should still have them available, where shall I copy them to?
As a side issue, Jamie's node seems to be in a 'hidden' space!

| I'm not hidden exactly. BASLG1 is node 41.397. Maybe your node db is
out of date ? I get mail all the time from elsewhere so I'm not sure
why you have a problem. I'm only hidden in the sense that BASLG1 is a
sort of gateway node hiding our development group from the rest of
the EASYNET. It's a *real* pain; BASLG1 is a sort of lifeline for us
and when it goes down, well, I'd rather not contemplate that!
Jamie.
