826.0. "Need your advice on new PSE?" by SALEM::PAPPALARDO_R () Mon Jan 27 1997 16:11

Looking to buy this Bow....I want something that's simple..not to
complex....looking for a smooth quiet deer killer bow.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Question: Of the three choices..which would you recommend for pure
deer hunting situations...all shots not to be more than
              20-25 yards

1; One Cam , 2; Vector IV wheel , or StageIII wheel.

PSE's new bow called the NOVA.

    Riser: Machined Aluminum

    Peak Draw: 24" @40lbs, 26/50, 28/60,70, 29/60,70 30/60/70

    Limb: Compression Molded Straight

    Cable Guard: Gamesport

    Thanks for any input!!

826.2Not a Simple AnswerCHIPS::LEIBRANDTMon Jan 27 1997 20:1747

    Rick,

I just want to say there are lots of opinions on the merits of wheels
vs. cams vs. one cam...so be prepared to ask three people and get three
    different answers. :^)

I'd want to draw (and possibly shoot) all three choices before making a
decision. I hate a noisy bow, and the smoothness of the draw is important
to me too. Speed is also worth considering.

From the "News and Press Release Section" of the PSE page:

"PSE's Nova is available in three cam choices. The Stage III is
a compression-molded eccentric that adjusts up or down 1"
in 1/2" increments. The Vector IV HL combines power and
smooth draw characteristics with 3-way cabling options. The
One-Cam design virtually eliminates eccentric tuning problems."

One cam bows seem to be the latest rage. Generally speaking, they are
easier to tune (pretty much eliminates timing problems and nock point is
much less critical.) The downside is you probably sacrifice some speed
when comparing to the 2 cam version of the same bow (maybe 10-20 fps?)
At short (20-25 yard) distance shooting, I don't think the speed loss is
a big deal. If you were shooting 3d, your distance judging would have
to be that much better....Are you tuning the bow yourself? Is ease of
tuning real important to you? This bow *might* be quieter than the two cam
    versions.

I'm not really familiar with PSE's cams/wheels, but it would appear
that maybe the Stage three gives +/- 1" in draw length capability
and the Vector doesn't? It is very important to get the proper draw
length bow, especially if there is not much room for adjustment in the
    cams themselves.

You can send mail to the engineers at PSE ([email protected]) and ask
about the differences in the 3 cams. They might even make recommendations
to you if you mention your situation/needs. FWIW, I think they'll give you
an honest answer. I've got helpful (generic) suggestions from them (Pete
Shepley) in the past and I don't even own a PSE bow :^).

    Good Luck,
    Charlie
