| | Hi. I'm a new employee, as well. I've been wondering if this was a
"dead" conference. So many of these just contain goodbye messages.
Nice to see that there are a few of us around.

I'm located in the Kansas City area, so if anybody wants some good RLDS
rumours, I'd be happy to make up a few...

| | Sure -- what have you heard abt the RLDS.
BTW, we had stake conference this past sun and the stake pres had just gotten ou
out of a 5 hour mtg with Elder Maxwell. Among the interesting stuff:
Dominican Republic now has 55,000 members -- wow!
the church will become more aggressive in "coming out of obscurity". Pres.
Hinkley will give an interview this Jan. on 60 Minutes (or was it 20/20).
Elder Maxwell predicts that there will be alot of "ups and downs" on the
road ahead. He spoke abt an hour on the BOM -- would be a major instrument
in converting the Jews.

| | I wish I'd been at that conference, sounds like a great one.

Well, as we all know, the President of the RLDS church has retired
effective this coming April. He has announced his successor as a
    non-Smith descendant.

I was listening to the radio as the RLDS spokesman answered questions.
The radio folks asked if this was okay; could you have a president of
the church that was not a direct descendant of Joseph Smith? In fact,
they wondered if this wasn't maybe against the "rules". Keep in mind
that there is a pretty big RLDS presence here, so the press is pretty
    savvy.

The answer to the question posed? "No, it's not part of the religion,
    it's only a tradition."

WHAT? Have I been missing something here? I thought it was a BIG part
    of the religion.

I guess I have a lot to learn.
