How does the insurance policy of the church work? Say, for example, an individual breaks a leg on a hike or a person gets injured in a softball game, what is the policy of the church as far as paying for the medical expenses? Do they try to get the injured person to pay for it themself or is there an insurance policy the church has that provides for this particular type of coverage? Thanks for any and all replies. scott

I don't know the details (perhaps a Bishopric member can fill them in), but there is an optional accident insurance policy that some (many?) Bishops take out for ward activities. I think it covers any approved ward activity. I think it only pays after any other insurance has paid, but I'm not sure about this. I don't know its cost. Allen | |||||

I think Allen is correct, that this insurance is optional. Recently, a non-member was playing basketball in one of our activities and was hurt. The insurance coverage took care of the medical costs. In my wife's parents brach, a sister broke her leg on the branch campout. The insurance coverage will take care of that, as well. You will need to check with your bishop to see if the local unit has opted to obtain this coverage. Rich |
