127.0. "Video: Heavenly Father's Plan" by NEXUS::S_JOHNSON () Tue May 17 1988 12:24

Hi,

Does anybody know the name of the new video the church put out last year where
a young man talks about the church? It shows him driving in a yellow truck and
he saddles up a horse and goes in the woods to camp. I think the guy's name is
Shawn Stevens and he has been in a few soap operas. It is about 30 minutes
long.

Has anyone seen it? What kind of experiences has anyone had with this video?

Thanks for the replies.

The name is 'Our Heavenly Father's Plan' (VNVV4033). It is a
missionary-type video. It's contents are essentially the same as the
first missionary discussion.

I haven't used the video much, but as a Stake missionary I use the
audio cassette tape all the time. I love it. There is a special spirit
in the message of the tape. One would have to be totally spiritually
inert to not feel *something* when viewing/listening to this tape.

I know that this tape is a special missionary tool. Sometimes when the
missionary work is not at a fevered pitch, I'll take a copy of the
audio tape along with me in the morning and ask Father to let me find
someone to give it to that day. It usually works. Sometimes I find
more than one person, and have to bring extra tapes the next day.

We recently had the missionaries over to our house and they shared it
with our family. It is pretty good. You might ask them over to your
house, if you want to see it.

The video and audio tape is called Our Heavenly Father's Plan. I
have seen and heard both. I would vote for the audio version over
the video tape. I, too, felt a special spiritual feast in listening
to the audio tape. The video tape turned me off totally. The one
I saw presented "fair and delightsome" college coeds oozing and
gushing. Also showed the Mormon equivalent of the Marlboro man,
i.e. tall, blond, handsome riding in the Utah canyons. Visually
the video tape presents the usual stereotype of the western Mormon.
From a script perspective the dialogue is simplistic. For audiences
with diverse ethnic backgrounds, I would not show the video tape,
but rather use the audio tape which has a wonderful appeal to it.
