4295.0. "Blank FROM_ADDRESS when transferred?" by KERNEL::LOAT (Stop throwing those bloody spears!) Tue Jun 28 1994 09:09

    VMS 5.5-2 ALL-IN-1 3.0A

A customer has transferred a series of accounts from one ALL-IN-1
system to another, over a period of weeks.

Everything went okay, until someone who had been transferred tried to
answer a mail message, and the addressing information was blank. The
FROM_ADDRESS field is blank for all transferred mail messages, which
makes life some-what difficult for the ALL-IN-1 users who use EM a lot.

This is a problem which is fixed in ICF #37, but now the customer has
got a lot of ALL-IN-1 accounts with this problem, which they'd like to
rectify. The source system still has all of the accounts on it, so the
information is still there, but some of the users have been transferred
for a few weeks, so re-transferring them is not an option.

Given that we have the source system complete with accounts, and the
target system, with the broken mail messages, can anyone suggest any
way of getting the FROM_ADDRESS info from the source system, and
getting it to the target system?

We've had a thoght about this, and can't see any easy way to do this?

    Any ideas?

    Steve.

    Hi Steve,

as we've determined this problem, we had the same problem with
    users already transfered.

What we've done-> on the orginal system modifed the drawer access for
allowing remote access. -> on the transfered system customer wrote a
script accessing the 'original' filecabs and loop through all of them
getting the from_address and put it into the 'transfered'filecab.
All you need is the DSO. (maybe temporary LOAN PAK!)

    Just a hint!

    HAve fun
