4280.0. "MUA RNA failed: created version 2 of dir-file" by COPCLU::ELIN (Elin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406) Tue Jun 21 1994 12:55
A customer has renamed user FMH to FM, using MGT MUA RNA.
FM is now the username in profile and SYSUAF.
But now there are two versions of the user's top directory, FM.DIR;1 and
FM.DIR;2.
Both are Directory files, but FM.DIR;1 is owned by a UIC that has been
deleted from the system.
FM.DIR;2 had been created by the rename account procedure RNA.
I renamed FM.DIR;2 to FM_NYT.DIR;1
It contains the A1 directory structure, but the files still have the old
username, FMH, instead of FM. FILECAB.DAT also has the old username as the
owner of the Main drawer.
1. I would like a comment on why ALL-IN-1 was able to create FM.DIR;2
Normally it is not possible to create two versions of a directory file.
2. I will now delete FM.DIR;1 and rename FM_NYT.DIR to FM.DIR.
Then I plan to rename the files to be FM.A1CAL FM.PST etc.
- But how do I change FILECAB.DAT?
(can I just edit it in TPU and convert it?)
Below are some lines from the logfile, $DIR/FULL of FM.DIR;*
and the contents of the user's <.A1...> after RNA.

4280.1 | Solved, - but how could this happen? | COPCLU::ELIN | Elin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406 | Tue Jun 21 1994 14:30 | 17 |

I renamed the files and deleted FILECAB.DAT, - a colleague told me that
a new one gets created when the user logs into ALL-IN-1.
Then I had to do OAFC$PART_SEED on user FM to get rid of the "drawer
logical" error.
---
What is left is: How could ALL-IN-1 create FM.DIR;2 ???

4280.2 | | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Tue Jun 21 1994 17:45 | 6 |
| As understand it, you can *create a file called* "mumble.DIR;2" bit
it just won't behave like a directory unless it's generation 1.
Graham
PS Why we managed to do it in the first place is another story...

4280.3 | How to reproduce it | COPCLU::ELIN | Elin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406 | Fri Jul 01 1994 12:37 | 20 |
| To reproduce the error:
$ crea/dir disk1:<AAA>
MGT MUA C CU create user BBB in directory disk1:<BBB>
MGT MUA RNA rename user BBB to AAA in directory disk1:<AAA>
$ dir disk1:<000000>AAA.DIR;*
Directory DISK1:<000000>
AAA.DIR;2 AAA.DIR;1
Total of 2 files.
AAA.DIR;2 is the directory created by RNA.

4280.4 | spr it | IOSG::CARLIN | Dick Carlin IOSG, Reading, England | Fri Jul 01 1994 19:07 | 7 |
| Yes there is a problem there. Unfortunately it's too late to fix it for
3.1
We did make some corrections for RNA (concealed device logicals) but we
missed that one, sorry.
Dick
|
4280.5 | need /INVALID=OA$DIR or something | SHRMSG::HOWARD | Yes it is | Fri Jul 01 1994 19:43 | 5 |
| You could/should probably customize the form to check for the existence
of the directory before proceeding. That should stop the problem from
happening.
