4273.0. "MS-MAIL to ALL-IN-1 via MRS?" by PCIGAT::Tilley () Fri Jun 17 1994 17:26

	I have a Very Large Pilot going on and I having a problem
when someone from there company send mail while using MS Mail
with DOS/Windows attachments. The method of travel of this mail
message is as follows:

1. Creates Mail from MS Mail
2. Send Message to a Soft Switch Gateway.
3. The Soft Switch Gateway then sends it to IBM DISOSS.
4. IBM DIOSS then sends it out using Digital MRS Gateway.
5. MRS send it to ALL-IN-1 where it is read my TeamLinks.
6. Any Windows/DOS attachments are taged by TeamLinks as
   FCS$MSDOS File Format.
7. Second problem is that Cover Memo is not formatted properly
   where you have two full lines of text and then a line with
   one word and that is repeated throughout the document.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The kicker to this is that when the customer
		sends mail the other direction (to a MS Mail
		user who either on a MAC or DOS works fine.

P.S. --- I going crazy on this ONE...

4273.1First find where it's going wrong!IOSG::MARSHALLA glitch in realityFri Jun 17 1994 17:4119
These messages are taking such a convoluted route to get from MS Mail to
ALL-IN-1 that the problem could be arising anywhere!

The best thing to do is get MRS to keep the NBS files it creates when importing
mail from the IBM system. Dump these files and check whether the content is
correct. If it is, then the problems are occuring with Message Router or
ALL-IN-1. If the NBS files are wrong (ie the wrong bodypart tags and repeated
text have already appeared) then the messages have been erroneously converted
before they got to "our" side of the fence, and there's not a lot we can do
about it. You'd need to look at Soft Switch and DISOSS in more detail to see
why they are getting it wrong.

But taking a step back, why is "FCS$MSDOS" the wrong data type anyway (I assume
that's what item 6 in your list is implying)? I don't know anything about MS
Mail, but what ALL-IN-1 data type should be being used for these messages? If
they're just plain text, then the sending end would appear not to be tagging
them correctly in the first place.

	The FCS$MSDOS tags should be MS Excell of MS Word and I
I known this because when I export them to DOS and give the
correct File Extension that it was SUPPOSE to be when sent. So
if I click on them from within windows it launches the appropriate
App..
4273.3Confused on to next step..PCIGAT::TilleyMon Jun 20 1994 16:216
	Another question and that is, if I send mail from MS
Mail and it has a problem getting it into TeamLinks using
ALL-IN-1 Mail as the mail server using the route in the
original note, but when sending mail the reverse route to
MS Mail and the the Mail Message with attachment are correct
in formatting where do I go from here?

Exactly the same as I suggested in .1: trap the Message Router NBS files
created by MRS and see what they contain. That will identify where the file
formats are becoming confused, and hence help explain what ALL-IN-1 / Teamlinks
is doing with them.
