4267.0. "Server locking DAF.DAT of many users..." by TAV02::CHAIM (Semper ubi Sub ubi .....) Fri Jun 17 1994 08:13

When the file cabinet server is running and enabled is it expected that many
DAF.DAT files would be locked by the server process (node$srv73) even though
the corresponding users are not themselves logged into ALL-IN-1.

Thanks,

Cb.

Yes, this happens for a period of time once the users have
disconnected. Eventually the FCS releases them.

However, if they managed to do something REALLY nasty, there might be
threads hangin around locking the files for a longer period of time.
Stop/start the server will resolve this. If the log files looks clean,
    then this is expected behaviour.

    Thanks,
    Kevin.

4267.2It might hang on to them for a long timeAIMTEC::FARLEY::PORTER_TTerry Porter - Customer SupportFri Jun 17 1994 16:5714
The FCS can hang onto drawers for ever, depending how many users are using
it. There is a FCS parameter Max # Drawers that determins the point at
which the server starts releasing drawers. If the number of open drawers
never exceeds Max # Drawers then the server will keep them open until it
shuts down. The only exception being if the server runs low on a vital
resource (such as CHANNELCNT) then it will release drawers to get some
resource back.

If the number of open drawers exceeds Max # Drawers then the server will
periodically close just enough drawers to bring the number of open
drawers doen to Max # Drawers. It will select the drawers that have been
unused for the longest time to close first.
