4258.1 | Sell them a customisation? | IOSG::MARSHALL | A glitch in reality | Wed Jun 15 1994 12:36 | 14 |
| ALL-IN-1 with Teamlinks provides the ideal VT-then-PC strategy wanted by the
customer.
I don't know what off-the-shelf software might exist to do the scheduling they
require; as you say, it sounds like one specific product they're describing. It
may be that that product only does scheduling and wouldn't integrate with the
rest of the system: ie they're unlikely to get everything they want
out-of-the-box.
You could always sell them some Digital consultancy to provide a custom ALL-IN-1
application to do the scheduling. It's pretty straightforward to do; IMHO such
a system should be in the base product, but no-one will fund us to do it!

| 1. ability to schedule over 50 rooms.
> yes
2. each room will have specific info such as capacity and equipment
available for that room. The software must be able to select an
appropriate room based on these paramaters.
> no
3. rooms must have time availability paramaters. Min time increment
for room scheduling is 1/2 hour.
> yes
4. the system must have the ability to identify any special rules
associated with a room such as
time availability - evenings or weekends
security access required
> no
5. each room should have information available including at a minimun
contact person
estimated attendance
equipment required
name of meeting ( meeting id )
> some functionality available, not all
6. the system should have the ability to "overbook" a room when needed.
A warning message should alert the user of the "overbooking".
> no
7. system generated confirmation letters are required
> no
8. user defined fields or a comment line is needed to note special
considerations or helpful messages about a room.
> maybe
9. scheduling as much as 18 months in the future is required.
> yes
10. multiple levels of security are needed to gain access to specific
functions and/or data.
> no
11. reporting - the ability to create user specific reports is
required. standard reports should include a daily and weekly log of
the scheduled rooms.
> customizable
I also don't believe your customer will find any off the shelf
product to meet his needs. Different levels of data access just
isn't included in any scheduling package I'm aware of.

4258.3 | ever hear of Target? | DV780::WILLIAMSON | Mike Williamson DTN 554-7227 | Wed Jun 15 1994 16:43 | 17 |
| Thank you for the responces.
re: .1
Yes I agree that ALL-IN-1 and Teamlinks provides the correct migration
path, right now it looks like what we will propose. And yes we may
well include a custom project to write the scheduler they need, but I
need to know the competition, and relative cost.
re: .2 Thank you, that helps alot. I am trying to get RCM up on my
3100 this morning to get a better feel for it.
Another question:
The sales rep says he heard a reference to a scheduling product called
"Target" once from the customer.
Any one ever heard of it?

I've heard of Target as a software house never a product. Maybe that's
the confusion, it's quite possible that they do a sheduling product.

4258.5 | Target Calendar | DV780::WILLIAMSON | Mike Williamson DTN 554-7227 | Thu Jun 16 1994 18:18 | 9 |
| I just talked to the customer. The calendar/scheduling spec given to
me was taken almost directly from Target Calendar from Target Systems.
One issue, Target Calendar is integrated with VMSMAIL, but not ALL-IN-1
at this time. I will be including some consulting time in the proposal
to determine the leve of integration the customer wants, and to do the
integration. ( one very nice thing about ALL-IN-1 is the releative ease
of adding other products things in. )
