4248.0. "Extra page from VMSMAIL forwarded into ALL-IN-1 " by LEMAN::BLANCHARD (Blanchard David @ZSW DTN 753 2320) Fri Jun 10 1994 16:52

    Hello !!

Just recently ALL-IN-1 has appended VMSmail to information at the end of
the document delivered from VMSmail to ALL-IN-1. We are receiving
complaints from users stating that this is wasting paper,
as a new page is used to display this info.

    Configuration is

    	ALL-IN-1 3.0A
    	Mailbus S3.2-220
    	Mrgate S3.2-220
    	VMS 5.5-2

We customized the MRG component into the Mailbus configuration, to not
have any vmsmail info at the end of the document.

So It works fine if you try to send an vms mail to ALL-IN-1
interactively but if we set an Forward address into VMS Mail like
Set forward mrgate::"a1::manager", the VMSMail will be forwarded into
automaticly into ALL-IN-1 but with an anotation at the end of the mail
    as follow

    -------------------------- ATTACHMENT ---------------------------
    VMSmail To information: SYSTEM
    ---------------------------- BOTTOM ------------------------------

So it seems that the VMSMAIL generate an notification and attach this
    notification to the original mail.

My question is do we have a possibility to cancel this information ?

    Thank you for your help.

    Best Regards

>> ALL-IN-1 has appended VMSmail to information at the end of
>> the document delivered from VMSmail

No, MRGATE is appending the information. ALL-IN-1 is just displaying what it
was given. It does not know that the attachment containing the VMSmail info
is anything special, to ALL-IN-1 it appears to be just an ordinary attachment.
Hence there is nothing ALL-IN-1 can do to suppress it.

>> We customized the MRG component into the Mailbus configuration, to not
>> have any vmsmail info at the end of the document

Yes, this is the correct place to suppress the extra attachment. Why it is only
being suppressed in some cases and not others I do not know. Maybe some mail
is going through MRGATE on a different node which hasn't had the switch set to
suppress the extra attachment?

The FORTY2::MAILBUS conference is the place to ask about these MRGATE settings.

The only thing users in ALL-IN-1 can do is to DETach the attachment before
printing the message.

    	Hello!

    	Thank you for your answer.
I suppress the autoforward into VMS Mail, and try to forward
manuelly the received mail from SMTP into ALL-IN-1 3.0A.
I goes into ALL-IN-1 and select the recevied message, i read it
and i was surprise to not see any attachement at end of the message.

So it seems that the VMS mail autoforward function
add an information at the end of the forwarded message witch is
    	not an controlled by MRGATE.

Thank you to inform me if i am right or not ?

(This notes as been cross posted into FORTY2::mailbus conference
    	  # 2343)

    	Best regards
