4176.0. "Sundry ARCHIVE problems at customer site" by TAV02::CHAIM (Semper ubi Sub ubi .....) Wed May 18 1994 12:25

ALL-IN-1 V2.4

I have been having recurring problems at a large customer site with regard to
archiving.

Up until recently, there did not appear to be any particular problems.
However, for the last several weeks certain users have been showing up in the
log file with archive failures. In most of the cases the actual document could
not be found, which of course would cause archiving to fail.

The question is why are the documents themselves missing.

There do not appear to be any disk or disk quota problems. These documents did
exist previously.

I am wondering if perhaps there was a problem the FIRST time that these
particular documents were attempted to be archived and failed at which time the
actual document was deleted. Have there been any problems of this nature
documented.

In another case, the document failed without any apparent reason. I logged into
the users account and the document prima face seemed fine. It was in a folder
named GENERAL and was a mail message which was UNSENT. I could both read and
edit the text of the message. I attempted ADN and received an archive failure.
The reason was an RMS "Record not found". I issued MCD and was able to archive
the copy.

I would appreciate any input that could help me diagnos what is going on at
this customer site.

Thanks,

Cb.

4176.1No ARCHIVE PENDING folder ...TAV02::CHAIMSemper ubi Sub ubi .....Wed May 18 1994 12:5220
I forgot to mention one other piece of information which is interesting in
itself but may also shed some light.

In each of the cases where the archive failed the log file initially stated
that there were "No Pending files to be archived" then it follows with an
archive failure.

None of these users has an "ARCHIVE PENDING" folder. Yet the problems occurs
daily.

1. Why does the log file say no pending and then fail

2. If there is no ARCHIVE PENDING folder, from where is the procedure
   attempting to archive.

Thanks,

Cb.

A restate of this conference's policy:

If you don't get a reply to your note in a time that's acceptable to
you, you need to raise the problem through official channels. Repeated
notes of the form "is anyone there", will simply be deleted by the
moderators (well by this one anyway :-) )

The system used for getting official support may vary from region to
region. It used to be that you submitted an IPR. Increasingly, problems
are reported via a system called IPMT ("Integrated Problem Management
    Tracking")

    Hi,

A lot of Archiving got rewritten in V3.0, and became a lot more stable.
We have better chances with answering queries about Archiving in V3.0
because of this. Answering queries about archiving in V2.4 is going to
take a quite a bit of support work.

Asking in here was fine, because someone who experienced archiving in
V2.4 may have remembered your problem and pointed you to a solution.
That hasn't happened, so you need to turn to your official support
    channels.

IMHO your customers are inevitably going to get better support if they
    upgrade to V3.0.

    Cheers

    Stuart
