4171.0. "WPCORP DSAB problem after MUP" by GIDDAY::BURT (Scythe my dandelions down, sport) Tue May 17 1994 05:56

Customer running ALL-IN-1 V3.0, WordPerfect 5.1, Message Router S3.2-220

Customer has 2 clusters with the same software config, both of which have just
had MUPA installed. Theses are both production systems. Another system for
development also had the same problem described below.

After the upgrade, (WordPerfect) mail coming in from "other systems" could not
be read on one of these systems:
"Unknown document type cannot be displayed"

Send mail from this system - could be read okay on other systems
Sent test from another system (in outbox file was .WPC, handling WPCORP) but
on this system could not read it (inbox file ext is .00, handling blank, dsab
unknown) on both systems

Customer tried test on bad system back to self via MR - same problem

Trying changing editor to EDt and sending another test message - looks okay.

I had a look at the customer instal & post instal logs for all systems.
There are none of the standard symbol mismatch errors & weak reference errors
in the instal, post instal & link portions of the logs which would indicate
a WordPerfect integration problem.

I eventually found the STARS article entitled "[ALL-IN-1 V3.0A] Clarification
on Various Sections in the Release Notes" which discusses some of the
post-instal procedures, including changes to the oaet files. It appears that
somewhere along the lines, the customer didn't quite do everything correctly.

He has since corrected this, and re-linked ALL-IN-1, so all NEW mail is now
fine.

The problem as it exists now is that previously delivered mail (ie after
upgrade & before fix) is unreadable. The users have been requested to either
ask for their EMs to be resent to them, or convert the messages back to
WordPerfect using the CD option. The disadvantage of doing this is that the
message header details are lost.

Are there any alternatives other than the re-send or convert?

Thanks & regards,

Chele
