4167.1 | Yes, no, maybe... | IOSG::MARSHALL | A glitch in reality | Mon May 16 1994 15:10 | 13 |
| Officially, I think the DOCDB record format is "proprietary" - ie we reserve the
right to change it whenever we want, and don't support anything beyond what is
officially documented.
Unofficially, we are unlikely to remove the field for the sake of it; DOCDB
conversions are a pain during upgrades at the best of times! Also, we try and
be sympathetic to customers who may be using these fields for their own thing,
so we don't pull the carpet out from under the feet unless we have to.
In short: yes they can probably use it, and it's likely to be there for ever,
but we (IOSG), and hence Digital, don't guarantee it.

4167.2 | What about the handling field? | BRUMMY::MARTIN::BELL | Martin Bell, Central PSC, Birmingham UK | Mon May 16 1994 15:29 | 7 |
| ... or could your customer use the HANDLING (FORMAT) field, rather
than SETUP, and modify the behavior when they try to print the
document?
Just a thought,

4167.3 | Thank you.. | KERNEL::VANRIXTELE | Emma van Rixtel | Mon May 16 1994 15:54 | 12 |

Is the Handling field less likely to be changed than the Setup field
then???
I will put it to the customer, I don't think it will really matter what
she uses, she is more concerned with the fact that it may be changed in
future releases more than anything!!
Thanks anyway,
Emma.

4167.4 | Handling can be changed | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Mon May 16 1994 17:41 | 6 |
| The Handling field is unlikely to be changed. However, it can be modified by
a user using the U (Update) option and therefore the NOPRINT setting can be
removed, which may not be what the customer wants.
