| Andrew,
I've written some applications/customizations and sometimes the file
cabinet has been involved. I had to decide either to choose the
partition dsab or part$maint. Partition is well documented but will be
a problem if DNS will be introduced, part$maint is not documented but I
think it's the way to do it correctly - but because there is no
documentation I don't use it. Looking for examples in the base
elements I found that in most cases part$maint is used. So what do you
- or others - recommend?

| Hi,
If all the drawers you are accessing are local then I recommend you use
the PARTITION data set because it is more performant, and because it is
nor dependent on the File Cabinet Server being available. However if you
are accessing remote drawers as well then use PART$MAINT is required.
Behind the scenes PARTITION goes straight to the File Cab structures on
the system, whereas PART$MAINT goes to the File Cab Server.

I think that the lack of doc'n for PART$MAINT will be the least of your
troubles if you use DNS :-)
