4123.0. "Upgrade from Starter V3.0 to IOS V3.0, possible ?" by HGODCS::LIKSANGCHOW () Fri Apr 29 1994 10:59

    I would like to know if ALL-IN-1 Starter V3.0 is an officially
    supported version to be upgraded to ALL-IN-1 IOS V3.0. From the
    "ALL-IN-1 Integrated Office System Server and ALL-IN-1 Core services
    for OpenVMS VAX, V3.0" SPD, it stated only requirements for upgrade
    installation from ALL-IN-1 Starter V1.0 or V2.4, does it mean that
    upgrading from Starter to IOS is not supported via the upgrade
    installation.

    I would like to confirm this as a customer is currently running Starter
    V3.0 and would very much like to deploy TeamLinks before V3.1 is
    available. We're proposing an upgrade to IOS V3.0 and thus would like
    to find out if the standard upgrade installation can be used or special
    customized upgrade is required to achieve this.

    Thanks in advance for helping.

4123.1How to go from ALL-IN-1 STARTER V3.0 to ALL-IN-1 V3.0IOSG::MARSHALLA glitch in realityFri Apr 29 1994 13:3512
Hi,

Firstly, you should be able to use Teamlinks with ALL-IN-1 STARTER V3.0.

Secondly, to go from ALL-IN-1 STARTER V3.0 to ALL-IN-1 V3.0, you perform an
UPDATE installation with the ALL-IN-1 V3.0 kit, not an upgrade.

The UPDATE is a standard installation option for ALL-IN-1 V3.0.

The ALL-IN-1 STARTER V3.0 documentation should explain this in more detail.

    Scott,

    But TeamLinks can't use STARTER as a Mail Server since you can't put
    the MUP/TLC on a STARTER system....

    I think the SPD is in error as you can do an Update from STARTER to
    FULL ALL-IN-1 and should even be able to UPGRADE STARTER V3.0 to
    REAL ALL-IN-1 V3.1

    Thanks for the quick replies. As the customer will be using TeamLinks
    with the ALL-IN-1 server as both file cab and mail server, the update
    from STARTER is a must.

    Thanks for the tips, I will look through the documents.

4123.4Where is it documented ?HGOVC::LIKSANGCHOWMon May 02 1994 10:559

    I've read through the installation guide for both ALL-IN-1 and ALL-IN-1
    Starter V3.0 but still was not able to locate specific mentioning of
    updating from STARTER V3.0 to IOS V3.0.

    Any hint on where I can locate such info ?

    Sang,

    it's not documented because STARTER came out after V3.0. Just do
    @VMSINSTAL and it'll work...

I think we described the update installation in the STARTER release notes?

But as Andrew says, just do it, it works!

No versions of STARTER currently support TeamLinks. Customers must upgrade to
full ALL-IN-1 IOS using the appropriate QL-VNP license for the particular VAX
to get TeamLinks capability.

ALL-IN-1 V3.1 shipping in July will have STARTER functionality as a licensable
option on both AXP and VAX both of which will support TeamLinks V2 clients.
Customers may go straight from STARTER V3.0 to STARTER V3.1 thereby getting to
TeamLinks support in July.

Alternatively, customers can go from STARTER V3.0 VAX to ALL-IN-1 Core Services
AXP or ALL-IN-1 Client Services Access AXP (No VT support except for system
management) with new migration licenses, details of which will come out in the
July Sales Update.
