4111.0. " Urgent MUPA and FCS query.." by KERNEL::VANRIXTELE (Emma van Rixtel) Tue Apr 26 1994 12:40

    ALL-IN-1 v3.0-1 WPS-PLUS for DOS v4.1

Customer regularly exports WPS-PLUS documents over to ALL-IN-1 and they
are finding that the users DOCDB.DAT is getting locked by the FCS
    nearly every time now.

Up until now their only option is to stop and restart the FCS, but this
is becoming tedious and not an acceptable workaround to the customer.
He has heard from someone that the MUPA was supposed to recogise this
problem and fix it, but wants this clarified before they do the
upgrade. They are not due to upgrade until December but if this does
fix the problem they will have to do it sooner.

Could someone please clarify this point for me - does the MUPA fix this
problem? If not is there anything that the customer can do to prevent
    this problem occuring so often????

This is really quite urgent, and any help would be appreciated....

    Thanks in advance..

    Emma.

    Emma,

MUPA includes a number of fixes which will contribute towards this
problem no longer occurring. certainly on our production cluster we
have not seen the server locking DOCDB.DAT for a long time now. You may
also find that fine tuning the server will help, if the server is being
heavily used and is running out of resource it may lock files up.
Checking the server log file will indicate if this is happening.

So, my answer is a definite yes, MUPA will help resolve the problem,
but there's no guarentee it will never happen again.

I suggest they upgrade ASAP, MUPA includes a lot of valuable FCS fixes.

    Kevin.
