4095.0. "Can't restart AIDA server due to DSL-W-SHUT" by STKAI2::PSVENSSON () Wed Apr 20 1994 17:43

    The AIDA-server "died" in one of a two-node cluster. Tried to restart
    it with SM MAS STA but got "AIDA server failed to start....".
    This is what is coming out from the logfile

    DSL error : %DSL-W-SHUT, Network shutdown
    20-APR-1994 17:17:31.24 *************
    Problem initializing the transport layer

    The AID$SERVER_01 server was started but "died" after a few seconds.

    Acc/proc=detach/fu shows

    Final status text: %CLI-S-NORMAL, normal successful completion
    Final status code: 10030001

    A tracelog does not show anything abnormal either.

    The Installation and Management Guide translates DSL-W-SHUT to

    DECnet or DECnet TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS is not available
    Action: Restart DECnet or TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS

    What does this mean?

    The DECnet executor has state ON and as far as I can see we do not
    have DECnet problems.

    Note: Last weekend we merged this system with another IOS system and
          have got maybe another 20-30 TeamLinks clients using IOS. We have
    	  NOT changed the AIDA-server processquota since installation a
    	  couple of months ago. The number of TeamLinks clients are about
          250.

    thanks

    Pelle

4095.1How to restart the NetworkAIMTEC::WICKS_AAtlanta's Most (In)famous WelshmanWed Apr 20 1994 17:5010
    Pelle,

    what it means is run STARTNET to restart DECnet or UCX$STARTUP
    to restart UCX.

    which one isn't running?

    regards,

4095.2DECnet was runningSTKAI2::PSVENSSONThu Apr 21 1994 09:0315
      hello Andrew,

      Well, DECnet was definitively running on this node and
      TCP/IP is not used here.

      I reeboot the system last night to get rid of this and
      the server is running now, but I still not know what
      causes this.

      I stopped/restart him now without problem.

       Server AIDA$SERVER_1 successfully started on node STKONE

      regards

    Pelle,

    Was the server that died immediately also setup for TCP/IP, or was it a
    decnet only server.

    If the server is DECnet and TCP/IP, but you have not got TCP/IP on that
    node, then this message would be logged and the server would die.

    Kevin.
