4053.0. "$LOGOUT hangs process" by WAYOUT::CLARKE () Wed Apr 06 1994 13:02

VMS 5.5-1 ALL-IN-1 V3.0-1 + a patch S3.0-004 (I'm not sure what this is.)

When a user logs out the ALL-IN-1 Subprocess using $LOGOUT or $STOP from any
menu (also in /NOCUSTOM) the accounting information is displayed and the process
hangs. This occurs for any user with DCL privilege including the ALL-IN-1 System
Manager a/c. Control-Y terminates ALL-IN-1 and returns the user to DCL.

I have told the customer that they should use OA$SUB_CLOSE and not LOGOUT/STOP as
per the App. Prog. Guide. However it would be nice to explain why this occurs
on one machine in their network and not on a development machine (and our
support machines) which is a mirror image.

I have investigated process quotas, OAINI.COM's, symbols for logout/stop,
$OA_DCL_END/$OA_DCL_START etc to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you sure that the process hangs? When I do it, sometimes the cursor stays
at the bottom left corner of the screen, rather than returning to the menu
CHOICE field, giving the impression of a process hang, but I can type as
normal, and ALL-IN-1 responds to the input. The cursor goes back to the right
place after I press RETURN.

The hang occurs after the accounting information is displayed with the cursor
remaining halfway down the screen after this. It will not respond to anything
other than Ctl-Y, I have tried typing, Ctl-W, Returns etc. If the process is
hung or still clocking CPU I'm not sure, to the user it appears to be a hang.

Could it be something to do with it trying to display the 'Error in Subprocess'
message?
