3998.0. "Lotus 123 V1.5 - Fatal Error" by GUCCI::SMCNEILL (Sherry McNeill @COP) Thu Mar 17 1994 13:51

    Lotus 1-2-3 for ALL-IN-1 V1.5
    ALL-IN-1 V3.0A

    When editing/creating spreadsheets the user eventually (after so many
    up arrows/next screens/prev screens) get an error from the system. It
    first displays the Scratch Pad menu and the error "An unexpected error
    has occurred, please press Gold Message for information".

    When you press Gold W the screen goes blank. You then press RETURN or
    EXIT SCREEN and you get the error:
    	Assertion Failure: form is "nws<=ws"

    Then I press RETURN and it takes me out of the spreadsheet back to the
    Lotus menu and returns the error:
    	Command interpreter debugger signal at PC=00B955Bf, PSL=03C00000

    This happens to many spreadsheets - it appears that they are all very
    large 3000 and above but we have some that are smaller.

    Once you reach the menu the keyboard is somewhat confused. It never
    accepts the first character and you do not have a displayable cursor.
    If you EEX to exit ALL-IN1 and get back to the VMS prompt there is
    still no cursor you have to reset your terminal.

    I have re-installed Lotus 1-2-3 and the problem still exists. The CSC
    has dialed in to the customer system and was able to duplicate the
    problem and referred the customer to Lotus and LOR'ed it. Lotus
    returned the call but they cannot dial into the system and said that
    "Digital hasn't given them MUPA yet so they have no way of duplicating
    the problem and will call Digital directly".

    Well, so far I am the LOR person. I have exhausted my resources and
    have no idea what to do next. The customer's suggestion was to buy
    WANG (I didn't know whether that was supposed to hurt us or make us
    laugh being that WANG's office automation has gone bankrupt).

    Any suggestions, ideas, even non-ideas will be appreciated. I will
    also post in the LOTUS conference.

    Thanking you in advance,

    Sherry

    Sherry,

    not only should Lotus have the MUP they definitely have the field test
    baselevel of the PFR! I would suggest you contact the Lotus product
    manager here at DIGITAL laurie studeyvan (or something like that) and
    point out to her that Lotus are not helping our customer here.

    P.S the Lotus conference is on node MRKTNG

3998.2I have seen this also (corrupt cell somewhere)COPCLU::COPLE4::GLARGAARDAllan Glargaard, DS @DMOFri Mar 18 1994 07:3321

  I've seen this at a customer site, where a large spread sheet
  sometimes crashed with an error which from my poor memory looked
  exactly like this. The error only came when you moved into special
  areas of the spreadsheet.

  I cut the spreadsheet in half and found the half that had the error.
  Then I cut this in half again, and again, and finally I found one
  cell which was corrupted. Whenever this cell was about to be
  displayed on the screen, the error came.

  In this case, the cell should contain only a string "==========", so
  it was easy to fix. I never found out why the spreadsheet was
  corrupted in the first place.

  Good luck,
  Allan
3998.3Raise IO limitsCOPCLU::ELINElin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406Fri Apr 15 1994 15:545
- a late answer, but it might help to raise BIOLM and DIOLM to 500.
ASTLM should be at least DIOLM+2 according to the Lotus manual.
