3993.0. "Customise OA$MAIL_ALL_DIST dsab?" by DPDMAI::REINDL () Wed Mar 16 1994 22:55

    Is it possible to create a customized version of an existing ALL-IN-1
    DSAB (for example, OA$MAIL_DIST_ALL) with all of the v3.0 CLI
    functionality? A customer would like to change OA$MAIL_DIST_ALL so
    that it doesn't look in the profile for system distribution lists.

    Thanks!

3993.1Why? are you sure this is what you want?AIMTEC::WICKS_AAtlanta's Most (In)famous WelshmanThu Mar 17 1994 00:4525
    henry,

    long time no hear how's the fetcher going? (:==:) we're still waiting
    for the beer to arrive - hint.

    why doesn't the customer want System Distribution Lists in the profile?
    well technically speaking they're not there as the profile entries just
    point out to OA$SYSTEM_LISTS anyway.

    I'm not sure what benefit you'd get by intercepting OA$MAIL_ALL_DIST
    (I changed the note title to reflect the correct name of one of my
    favourite DSABs) since you'd have potential knock on problems from
    things that might depend on it such as the EM or TM subsystems and
    particularly the dreaded OA$MAIL_ADD_ADDR dsab!!!!!!!!!

    Is there a way that you can achieve what you want without having to
    do a dsab? custom dsabs are fine if you have enough time and money but
    ones that go near the mail code well it just makes me shiver.

    ... and i'm sure the thought of custom mail code will make Scott shiver
    too if he's in in the morning!....

3993.2If they're not there, Why look?DPDMAI::REINDLThu Mar 17 1994 17:5918

    The mail code is working great. We're back to normal (whatever that
    is?) And the beer is forthcoming.

    Our "favorite" customer knows that the profile just points to
    OA$SYSTEM_LISTS so questions why we have to even bother looking in the
    profile. With the current and growing number of ALL-IN-1 users
    and the soon to be TeamLinks users, and many distribution lists, we're
    trying to cut some of the I/O contention on the profile.

    Does that make sense??

    If there's another way to do that I'm all ears...
