After upgrading to ALL-IN-1 3.0A, an application I wrote under 2.4 fails to print. I use WPSPLUS template, boilerplates, and merges to create the report, then I use WPPRINT script to get to the printer selection screen. So far so good. Once the printer is selected and it submits to the background formatter, I get an error msg across the screen of WPSPLUS Generic Error, as a broadcast, and the print fails. Does the background formatter generate a log of any kind? I couldn't find one. I have not found the means to debug this one because it has left the application and ALL-IN-1. I have checked the protections and locations of all the involved files and can find nothing wrong. The error msg is meaningless to me. Can any one give me a hint where to look for the *real* error? Thanks, Dave Kinney

OA$FORMATTER is reporting an error it got from the WPS-PLUS Formatter. What happens if you perform the WPS-PLUS format in the foreground? Try printing to FILE with the same Print Style. Richard

Sorry, I have been out of town for a few days. I tried printing the report to file, Works fine. Print to terminal also works. It's not just my application, It is a problem with any WPS file. WordPerfect works fine and they say since their stuff is ok, it must be a DEC problem. The report I am concerned about will print ok if I use the print type PS, generic post script printer. If I use the print style it comes up with for the printer on it's own, I get the error. The printers are network printers, not port printers. The error: Background Formatter Job PRINT (entry 1766) terminated with error status %WPSPLUS-E-Generic_MSG_TRA, Error occured during operation. I have very little experience debugging a problem like this. Can anyone help me get started? Dave Kinney

Are the failing background formater jobs being retained on the OA$FORMATTER queue? If so could you do a $SHOW QUEUE/FULL so that I see if the job parameters are correct. Is the system a cluster, and what nodes of the cluster does the background formatter run on? Can you do a foreground WPS-PLUS format when logged into the same node? Richard

Didn't this message used to mean you were using an old unconverted printer table ? What printer table does the print style point at ? What is the date on the .PRA/.PRC file in WPL$PRT ? Then again, I guess it wouldn't print to file correctly ?... Clive |
