3968.0. "Error writing to attendee file (V3.0)" by VAXRIO::ABREU () Fri Mar 11 1994 20:43

    Hi,

I have a customer who has a problem with TM. The problem has already
been described in previous notes ... They have three users USER1 ,
    USER2 and USER3 ...

step 1: USER1 creates an EVENT and invites USER2.

step 2: USER2 reads the mail message that invites him to the event but
leaves with F10 without sending the answer.
step 3: After that, USER3 (who has access to USER1's calendar) uses
the option SO (set owner) to handle USER2's calendar and AM
(answer Meeting) to answer the pending request from USER1

.. Till then , everything works

step 4: But when USER1 logs in his account and tries to read the message,
the error "ERROR writing to attendde file " is shown and the
status of the message becomes NOTED.

Well ... I read in previous notes that there is a patch for that .. As
I received ALL-IN-1 3.0A , I installed it to check if this patch solves
the problem ... But now , when USER3 tries to use option SO and AM (step 3),
the first option works , but the option AM says that he doesn't have
privilege to answer the meeting .. I checked the named data of the form
and realized that a line was included ... The line is :

IF OA$MAIL_USER .NES. OA$TM_OWNER Then error

So the user has to SET MAIL USER before executing the AM option. IS
this the intended behaviour ? If I do this , everything works fine.

I tried taking this line out and the situation is a litte bit than the
original one better but there is still a problem ...
Without this line ,in V3.0A , when step 4
is executed , the error message "error writing .." is still shown but
the status of the mail message is not NOTED. The message is OK.

Any ideas of a solution to this problem ?

    Thanks .. Marcia

3968.2not solved yet !VAXRIO::ABREUWed Mar 16 1994 14:2718
    Hi ,

I got the patch ICF 31 and I installed it , The problem with SO/AM is
really solved but there is still a problem with SMU. The situation is
    USER1 invites USER2 to a meeting. USER3 has access to USER2's calendar
and USER2's mail file cab ... USER3 uses SMU and see the message
inviting USER2 for the meeting and reads the message .. after pressing
RETURN during the read the form to confirm the meeting should be
shown but instead of that , USER3 receives an ACCVIO message and comes
    back to DCL.

I made the same sequence but before reading the mail , USER3 did a SO
(Set owner) in Time Management to access USER2's calendar and then he
went to EM and chose DUC ... with this sequence , everything worked.

Any ideas how I can solve this problem ?

    Thanks .. Marcia

    marcia,

Given the transitory nature of ICfs (particularly ones in the TM
subsystem - ICf22 had a shelf life of 10 days!) I would contact whoever
gave you ICF31 and see whether it was supposed to fix your problem or
whether there is another one on its way...

    regards,

    Marcia,

Very strange! I cannot reproduce this on my test machines with
ICF031 (the scenario you mention is the principal problem fixed in
ICF022 - which was INCORPORATED in ICF031 for convenience). ICF031, to
my knowledge, has already gone to at least 6 major customers, none of
whome have reported problems with it. Also, what is this DUC option -
is this a custmoization or LLV option? Can you supply any more details?

    Regards,

    Jonathan.

    Hi Johnathan ,

I've installed in my machine here . I haven't installed yet at the
customer site. Maybe I have a problem here but I couldn't find out. My
    ALL-IN-1 is Brazilian.

DUC (portuguese) means SMU option in the english version. So When I use
the SMU option , I can read the message but before coming the
confirmation form, I receive an ACCVIO. If I do the SO before reading
the message , everything is Ok.

Maybe , I have something wrong at my system ... any ideas of what could
    cause this ?

    Thanks

    Marcia,

    	I take it you've re-linked and re-installed the OA$MAIN.EXE after
    installing the patch...

    Could you do a $ LIBRARY/LIST/FULL OA$BUILD_SHARE:OALIBR

...you should get something similar to the following:

    OACMF Ident V3.0-S031 Inserted 16-MAR-1994 16:25:30
    33 symbols
    OACMMA Ident V3.1-S022 Inserted 16-MAR-1994 16:25:49
    10 symbols
    OACMME Ident V3.0-S031 Inserted 16-MAR-1994 16:26:11
    24 symbols

    Hi Jonathan,

I made some tests this morning and realized that if I do a <NEWDIR
USER3 from manager account the SMU option works. I tried to look for
protection errors but I didn't find out.. IVP runs fine too. I think I
    relinked and reinstalled oa$main . I'm 99% sure. Anyway , I'll do it
again and execute the list you asked.

    Thks .. Marcia

    Hi Jonathan,

I checked the oa$main and I really relinked the image and
reinstalled it. I executed the library/list /full and the modules you
described are the same .. I mean the same version and the same number
    of symbols.

do you have any ideas what else could cause this ?

     thanks .....marcia

    Hi,

I enabled the trace and realized that the error happens during the
execution of the function CALENDAR INITIALIZE FILES.

    Any ideas ?

    Marcia,

Sorry, yes, I did receive the A1TRACE.LOGs. I'm currently wading
through them to see if I can find a clue as to what's going wrong...
