3922.0. "FCS logfile has %SYSTEM-F-SUBLOCKS, error message" by GIDDAY::SETHI (Oh what a feeling .....) Mon Feb 28 1994 05:36

    Hi All,

    A customer has ALL-IN-1 IOS 3.0-1 installed and has had a problem with
    their FCS, the customer had to stop/restart the server. Users were
    complaining of poor systems performance. When the customer tried to
    stop the server an error message was displayed in the logfile :

      Time out - not all tasks run to completion

    The server was not stopped and a stop/id command was used to stop the
    FCS process.

    There was an interesting error message in the logfile:

    21-FEB-1994 14:57:04.34  Server: PER2::"73="  Error:
    %MCC-E-EXISTENCE_ERROR, object does not exist

    21-FEB-1994 15:08:52.74  Server: PER2::"73="  Error:
    %SYSTEM-F-SUBLOCKS, cannot dequeue a lock with sublocks Message:
    CsiCacheFlushDrwStruct; Error dequeing VMS lock block

    The customer has sent me the logfile and it can be found on
    RIPPER::USER$TSC:[SETHI]Q22211.LOG. I would be grateful if you could
    look at the logfile and get back to me. Is there anything to worry
    about ?

    Regards,

Hi Sunil,

	I have seen this error once before - same version etc... but the users
didn't report any performance problems...however, the FCS process that was logging
the errors was still configured for the default 50 users, and the cutomer actually
had 200 accounts on the system!! I advised him to tune the FCS accordingly and
also check out the SYSGEN params like RESHASTBL and LOCKIDTBL, in fact I think
he just did an AUTOGEN run with feedback... He hasn't reported problems since,,
have you tried this?

-Trev

p.s. I think his log had many other errors present all seemed to have the word
LOCK somewhere in the message.

    Sunil,

    As Trevor says, check to ensure they have 'tuned' the server as much as
    possible to suit their particular environment. I also suggest they
    upgrade to V3.0A (MUPA) as soon as they can. There are no specific
    fixes around %SYSTEM-F-SUBLOCKS, it is a MUCH more stable server, and
    includes some important bug fixes.

    Kevin.
