A customer has asked... "Does Digital have a recommended mail area WRITE WINDOW size for a given number of users?" e.g. for, say, mail area A with 50 allocated (not concurrent) users; how big should the write window be? I *know* it depends on how many mail messages each user typically sends - so let's say 10

You're probably going to get a better answer to this from the experienced people in the field, but... I always suggest the same sort of strategy as any tuning exercise, which is to try it and see what happens. You need to aim for a suffieciently high number so that you don't have to create new ones very often, say every couple of months. So create "some" and watch how fast they fill up. If it's in a week or two, create several more or vice versa. Finally, what's the problem with creating "lots" to start with? I can't see that it will be any serious overhead, and will smooth out disc accesses more... IMHO, Graham |
