Hong,
The server process quota defaults have not changed between V3.0 and
V3.0A (MUPA). The values in the server config (e.g. max # drawers etc)
which default for 50 concurrent users have not been touched either. If
your server configuration was setup to exceed these values, the MUPA
installation respects that and DOES NOT change them !
The changes to OAFC$STARTUP.COM that I am aware of are:
a) The server now starts with an increased process priority, which can
be overridden by a logical (as per the other process quotas).
b) The server used to start with /noresource_wait, which caused us
problems with servers starting over TCP/IP.
Other than that, there are no changes to the startup that I am aware
of.
As for servers starting as if by magic, I have no idea how this could
happen unless something is running A1V30START, etc. There are no
fundermental changes to the way servers are stopped/restarted with the
MUP.

Thanks for the info.
I trust MUPA did respect custom changes to this file, OAFC$STARTUP.COM;
however, this customer, the biggest site in Australia was also equally
trust-worthy in maintaining their 'innocence' about the disappearance
of their FC server configuration added prior to MUPA.
Am therefore anxious to hear from other sites that have gone thru the
same process, who can confirm or reject this customer's suspicion.

3864.4 | not using logicals | GIDDAY::LEH | | Wed Feb 09 1994 12:14 | 6 |

This customer modified the file directly and never used logicals for
server config setup.

3864.5 | Not the way to up FCS quotas, should use logicals ! | IOSG::STANDAGE | | Wed Feb 09 1994 15:42 | 15 |

Hong,
If the customer modified the OAFC$STARTUP.COM directly and did not use
the logicals then of course, the MUPA installation will blow these away
!!! The MUPA installation replaces OAFC$STARTUP.COM with a new version.
Using the logicals (i.e. the supported way of increasing the server
process quotas) would have protected them against this !

3864.6 | being delinquent | GIDDAY::LEH | | Wed Feb 09 1994 23:27 | 15 |

I've been delinquent myself on this. I must have seen in very early
*unofficial* doco ways of setting up FC server config, which included
the direct modification of OAFC$STARTUP.COM.
I also failed to notice logicals being the only supported method
mentioned in the doco. A victim of 'quick' scanning of manuals
Have now passed on this important instruction to customer
Many thanks
Hong
