Hi, I have a customer who is using V3.0 and some weird things are happening with the GPC ( Group Conferencing). When the users create a restricted conference, the new members added receive the NODENAME::USERNAME mail address even if they are ALL-IN-1 users. The fact is that when they try to send a mail to the users with option MCM , it fails because the address is not correct .. even when the user is a VMS user , the address NODENAME::USERNAME doesn't work in ALL-IN-1, because this mail address is not OK to mail through ALL-IN-1. I guess this is the right behaviour and I asked the customer to change the mail address when adding the member to the ALL-IN-1 username (when the user is a ALL-IN-1 user - VAXRIO::allin1username ) or to the VMS mail adress "username@mrgate". This works fine but the customer still complains... Is this behaviour the one expected ? or is there something wrong ? Thks .. Marcia

Hello Marcia, Unfortunately this is normal behaviour. DEC Notes is used by multiple interfaces (ALL-IN-1, TPU, ...) which are associated with different mail systems (ALL-IN-1, VMSmail...) which use different addressing schemes. As long as membership records can only hold one address I don't think there can be a solution which satisfies all parties in mixed environments. If your customer is using DEC Notes purely from ALL-IN-1 then I don't understand why it would be a problem. Otherwise I am afraid that the minority will probably need to accept the limitation of not being able to use the membership addresses to send mail. Sorry there is no better news for you... John |
