3838.0. "Can I disable the MAIN drawer?" by COPCLU::COPLE4::GLARGAARD (Allan Glargaard, DS @DMO) Tue Feb 01 1994 14:02

  Hi!

A customer is running TeamLinks V1.1 against DEC MAILworks V1.2 and
  ALL-IN-1 IOS V3.0A.

They don't want their users to see the IOS MAIN drawer (because it
contains INBOX, OUTBOX etc just as the MAILworks main drawer) and
have therefore DISabled the IOS MAIN drawer from the MGT MFC MD
  menu.

This used to work in V3.0-1, but after the upgrade to V3.0A they
have trouble managing the user from the VT interface (using <NEWDIR
or even an interactive login as the user himself) if the main drawer
  is disabled.

I've tried to change the indicator flag to "0" and then removed the
drawer, but it immediately pops up again (if I'm doing it from the
  Archive, Drawer Administration menu).

Seen from TeamLinks, if the IOS main drawer is disabled, some of the
other IOS drawers are not shown. Two examples:

IOS MAIN enabled: IOS MAIN disabled:
                      -------------------- -------------------
  DMW drawer: POST POST
First IOS drawer: AKB HOVEDARKIV AKB HOVEDARKIV
                      AKB TEGNINGSARKIV AKB TEGNINGSARKIV
                      --- ---
  IOS MAIN drawer: HOVEDSKUFFE
                      ---
                      KO-EK 16

I'm putting on trace now, so maybe I'll come up with more details
later, but any thoughts from you great guys will be appreciated.

  best regards,
  Allan

Are you sure? I don't have access to a V3.0-1 system, but I'd be very
surprised if it did work with V3.0-1.

3838.2Why does TeamLinks and VT behave differently?COPCLU::COPLE4::GLARGAARDAllan Glargaard, DS @DMOWed Feb 02 1994 13:2022
Well, I'm fairly sure we checked it against V3.0-1 before the
upgrade, but to be honest I'm not 100% sure.

But why can I see the first couple of drawers from the IOS archive
in Teamlinks with a disabled MAIN drawer and not the rest. And why
can't I see (ie. read full info) the first drawers from the VT
  interface?

A workaround could be to set the INDICATOR flag to "0" on the MAIN
drawer, thus making it possible to just remove the *enabled* drawer
from the list of selected drawers. This will only work if I set
INDICATOR to "1" on another selected drawer, eg. the AKB HOVEDARKIV.

What will be the effect of this (apart from the VT user being unable
  to send mail using IOS).

I should note that the two first drawers have *WORLD on them, while
the rest is protected by normal *group entries.

  Any thoughts still greatly appreciated,
  best regards,
  Allan

    Hi,

I think the reason you are running into problems is because you are
using the enabled/disabled flag in a way that was not intended. It was
simply meant to mean that the drawer cannot be accessed, typically
whilst the System Manager is making some repair. It was not meant to be
    a "hide this drawer" flag.

For an ALL-IN-1 VT user to be able to access a drawer it has to
enabled. For the VT user to open the File Cabinet the default drawer
(INDICATOR = 1) has to be accessable, which includes being enabled.
Disabling the user's default drawer will prevent the user getting in.

You workround seems OK. But the VT user will still be able to send mail
    - the mail folders will now appear in the new default drawer. Another
workround would be to stop using DecMailWorks, and use IOS for your
    mail!

    Cheers
