3739.0. "Minimum VMS Version 5.4 or 5.5-2 ?" by TROOA::LFUNG () Thu Jan 06 1994 21:24

    hi,

There is a little bit confusion here, in the ALL-IN-1 V3.0 installation
guide the minimum VMS version is V5.4 but on the SPD of ALL-IN-1 V3.0
the minimum VMS version is V5.5-2. The customer, who wants to upgrade
thier existing ALL-IN-1 V2.3 system to V3.0, is at VMS V5.4-3 and
they are not sure whether they should upgrade to VMS V6.1 (the most
current version) or stick with V5.4-3.

Would anyone clarify this for me ?
and will ALL-IN-1 V3.0 run OK on VMS V6.1 ?

    Regards,
    Lucia

One more question, if upgrade of VMS to V6.1 is required, will ALL-IN-1
V2.3 work with VMS V6.1 ? if so after VMS upgrade to V6.1 I believe the
customer has to relink the ALL-IN-1 V2.3 image.
So the upgrade from ALL-IN-1 V2.3 to V3.0 procedure in this case will
    be:
    1. Upgrade VMS to V6.1
    2. Relink ALL-IN-1 V2.3 image
    3. Test the system to make sure the system is running OK under VMS V6.1
    4. Upgrade FMS from V2.3 to V2.4
    5. Upgrade Message Router and VMS Gateway from V3.1b to V3.2
    6. Relink ALL-IN-1 V2.3 image
    7. Test the system to make sure the system is running OK
with new version of FMS and Message Router
    8. Upgrade ALL-IN-1 from V2.3 to V3.0
    9. Test the system to make sure the system is running OK with the
       ALL-IN-1 V3.0

    Any input is much appreciated.

3739.2Not a difficult questionAIMTEC::WICKS_AAtlanta's Most (In)famous WelshmanThu Jan 06 1994 21:4221
    Lucia,

    there's no confusion - honest.

Remember the Installation Guide was published in early 1992 when v5.4 was
hot stuff. The SPD has just been updated and rereleased with the addition
of Core Services and the TLC and so that's going to go with the latest
minimum version of VMS supported by either which is v5.5-2 (because TLC
    requires it)

so the questions to ask are:
    1) is the customer installing TLC if so it's v5.5-2 or v6.0
(v6.1 will not ship til April so they'd better not install that)
    2) if the customer is not installing TLC then go to 5.4-3 which is
the minimum now supported by OpenVMS engineering/CSC

    Simple eh.?

    Regards,
