3725.1 | MUPA & TLC not supported with Starter. | IOSG::BURTON | ALL-IN-1 Builder | Tue Jan 04 1994 16:10 | 14 |
| Benot,
I think Tony must have been referring to Starter V3.0 acting as a
server to TeamLinks V1.1 in the same way that ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (without
MUP) did.
ALL-IN-1 V3.0A (MUPA) and consequently TLC V2.0 are not supported for
Starter. If you would like further information, or an opportunity to
present your case for engineering to make this available, please
contact the product manager, Dave Holt @REO.
Regards,
Martin.

3725.2 | Definitely not | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Atlanta's Most (In)famous Welshman | Tue Jan 04 1994 16:36 | 15 |
| benoit,
I really hope Tony didn't say that. ALL-IN-1 Starter isn't patchable so
you can't install the MUP on it ... and since you can't patch STARTER
you can't add the TLC (there is no such thing as TCP 2.0) and use it as
a Mail Server.
get your customer to upgrade to real ALL-IN-1 and sell him one of the
new Core Services licences - it won't cost much and then you can
TeamLinks til your hearts content.
regards,
Andrew.D.Wicks

3725.3 | But this has been said ... | LFOIS1::DEMEESTERE | | Wed Jan 05 1994 09:05 | 36 |
| Hi,
Thanks for your rapid answers.
The fact that ALL-IN-1 STARTER is not supported as a mail server for TEAMLINKS
is very new for me.
I think that most of DIGITAL ALL-IN-1 presales don't have this information, and
even think the opposite.
At the European Workgroup Forum in Valbonne (FRANCE) on october 93, Tony
REDMOND, in the session "TeamLinks V2.0 Technical Overview", has said :
Slide 63 : ALL-IN-1 IOS Server
- Basics : V3.0 is the key
MUPA -- ALL-IN-1 V3.0A
TeamLinks Connection Package V2.0
Licensing
- File Cabinet Server
- Mailbus DDS
Slide 64 : Teamlinks Connection Package V2.0
- Installs new AIDA system management subsystem
- Installs server images
- ALL-IN-1 Starter is supported !
Could you contact Tony to verify this point ?
So, if ALL-IN-1 Stater is not supported, you MUST contact ALL-IN-1 Marketing and
Support teams in each country to give them the exact status on this point to
avoid any ambiguous situation.

Benot

3725.5 | STARTER does not support TeamLinks V2.0 | IOSG::HOLTD | Dave Holt | Wed Jan 05 1994 09:33 | 18 |
| Benoit,
Martin and Andrew are entirely correct - STARTER does not support TeamLinks V2.0
and will not do so. We have catered for 95% of the ALL-IN-1 market by
concentrating on ALL-IN-1 IOS V3.0 and do not have resources to provide a MUP or
TLC for STARTER in a sensible timescale.
With ALL-IN-1 V3.1 on VAX and AXP shipping in July, STARTER will simply be
another licensing option (as Core Services is) and not a separate product.
Encourage your customer to upgrade to full ALL-IN-1 V3.0 as the special offer
price on the TL 50-pack is very competitively priced.
I will inform Catherine Hayward and Ian Severn that some misinformation needs to
be corrected throughout Europe.
Regards,
Dave Holt, ALL-IN-1 Product Management

| If I confused people I'm sorry. Please remember that the slides you saw
in October were prepared in September (to meet publication dates,
etc.), and things are always likely to change. I recall a discussion
with a couple of people in Reading in August when this topic came up
and that's where I took the information from. But maybe my ears were
filled with a particularly bad form of wax that day, or perhaps the
drugs dulled my brain. Whatever.... I'll fix the presentation
material.
