3682.0. "gpc server access problem" by MSAM03::SOWWAN () Mon Dec 20 1993 08:45

    Hi,
    	When I add entry in GPC or VAXNOTES, I received the error of
    "login information invalid at remote node ...."
    	Any suggestions ? The Notes$server account exists with TMPMBX and
    NETMBX only; Flags : restricted DisUser Dismail; default:
    sys$sysdevice:[notes$server]; lgicmd : sys$system:notes$server_login.
    	Is it possible to remove Group Conferencing and reinstall it ? HOW?
    	Thanks!
    Regards

3682.1Not a GPC / Notes problem: it's a DECnet issueSCOTTC::MARSHALLIf you've got a widget, you don't need any gimmicksMon Dec 20 1993 09:5025
>> login information invalid at remote node

This is nothing to do with GPC/Notes specifically, and nothing to do with
your node. It's to do with the DECnet login performed at the remote node
on your behalf.

What it means is that on the remote node, the account specified for running
the Notes Server doesn't have the password specified for that account in NCP.

I don't remember the exact syntax for this, but basically what you do (on the
remote node) is something like:

$ MCR NCP
NCP> SHO OBJECT NOTES

    ...a few lines of info including a User Id, probably NOTES$SERVER, and
       a password...

NCP> EXIT
$ MCR AUTHORIZE
UAF> MOD NOTES$SERVER /PASSWORD=xxxxx <<< whatever password NCP showed above
UAF> EXIT
         ^^^^^^^^^^^^ whatever User Id NCP gave above

    re: .0, .1

    Agreed, Scott. My only addition would be to make sure you remember
    to have privileges on when issuing the NCP command otherwise you don't
    see the password.
