My customer has found a mail message that has come through the PMDF gateway (X400) from CC:MAIL to message router. Message router handled it well, but the A1 fetcher looped when it got the message for 2 reasons a) it was a distribution list with a number of addressees, b) it seems to have lost both the subject line and the addressee line in the header. He finds that if he renames the .NBS file the fetcher clears up. (his ALL-IN-1 version is 3.0-1) Somehow it managed to get delivered to a addressee (which was not specified) and the addressee did not recognize it as theirs. They also were notified that with the following "message damaged during transfer". This recipient seemed almost to be randomly chosen by the fetcher. The customer has come across only a few of these messages that hang the fetcher. Although he cannot be sure that they all originated in the same place, he is concerned that the fetcher is not robust enough to cope with these damaged headers, and continues to loop when encountering them. Is looping for an empty addressee field common? I'm just looking for thoughts, ideas on this...... Monica

monica, STARS offers many suggestions but all of them are answered as fixed in v2.4 or v3.0 - the one most similar to yours is entitled Message May Be Misdirected If Incoming NBS File Is Corrupt It may be time to dust off an SPR form since this does appear fairly serious. I haven't heard of any (that I remember) bad things happening with a v3.0 fetcher. Regards, Andrew.D.Wicks | |||||

Yes andrew, I'd seen that and thought - well this MUST be something different since it was a patch in V2.3. However, you are right, if its still around, maybe we should ring some bells... Monica |
