3653.0. "Workgroup Systems White Papers" by RESTRT::LATIMER (Eastern States Product Support) Fri Dec 10 1993 17:01
Below is the location of the white papers which were written for the
Workgroup Systems TEP (Technology Exchange Program) held in Reading
this past September/October.
These papers can all be accessed via TIMA or copied directly from
ROMA::TEP$PUBLIC:.
Note: Some of these papers are very long because the
TEP logo is at the top of every page; this adds considerably to the
amount of time the paper takes to print. We are working to see if
we can get "no logo" versions out there. In some instances, you may be
able to get one of these shorter versions by contacting the author.
Regards,
Nancy

- Workflow Software
by Ralf Huer
WORKFLOW_OVERVIEW.PS
Workflow Software is going to get a big market when more and more
companies want to implement Computer Integrated Business Processes
within their Workgroup Environment. This whitepaper gives an
introduction to workflow from the view of Desktop Integration. It
describes the workflow capabilities in the LinkWorks and TeamLinks
environments. The papers contains an overview of the Digital Workflow
Architecture and gives hints for possible extensions of the Workflow
capabilities in LinkWorks and TeamLinks. This whitepaper is aimed to
help Digital people who have little knowledge in this specific area to:
- get a better understanding of the term "workflow"
- gather first entry information for further studies
- be prepared for questions during LinkWorks and TeamLinks
presentations and installations
Some technical hints for workflow setup are given.
- Document Conversion Facilities in the TeamLinks Environment
by Jill Houlding
TEAMLINKS_DOCUMENT_CONVERSION.PS
The purpose of this paper is to identify the opportunities available
within the TeamLinks environment for performing document conversion.
It is fairly widely known that conversions between the popular PC
applications formats created within the TeamLinks environment and other
Digital products can be performed. It is not clear, however, where the
conversion is performed nor what additional products or additional
configuration is required to accomplish this. The paper describes how
to implement conversions of document types Word for Windows, WordPerfect
and WPS-PLUS when mailing these between the following environments:
- TeamLinks V2.0 (IOS Mail server)
- TeamLinks V2.0 (DEC MailWorks server)
- ALL-IN-1 IOS V3.0A
Using KeyPak for VMS and CDA Converter Services conversion tools in
addition to those supplied within individual products. In addition, the
paper will also consider MAILbus Conversion Manager
- TeamLinks and LinkWorks: An Overview
by Nancy Latimer
TLINKS_LWORKS_OVERVIEW.PS
The announcement of LinkWorks as a Corporate product has caused much
confusion in the field among specialists supporting office products.
We need to understand how LinkWorks fits into the Workgroup Systems
product space alongside existing products like TeamLinks and ALL-IN-1.
This paper will present an overview of the TeamLinks Version 2.0 and
LinkWorks V2.1 products. Each product will be discussed in terms of
the following topics:
- Introduction - Platforms
- Packaging - Prerequisite Hardware/Software
- Installation - Setup
- Key Features
The goal of this paper is to give the reader a better understanding of
what each of these products is and what types of customer problems each
can help to solve. Additionally, the information on installation and
set up should help to aid someone not familiar with the products in
understanding what is involved in getting them up and running.
NOTE: THIS PAPER IS OVER 9000 BLOCKS LONG WITH THE LOGO! TO COPY A
SHORTER VERSION (2443 BLOCKS) WITHOUT THE LOGO, SEND ME A MAIL
MESSAGE AND I WILL GIVE YOU A POINTER.
- Groupware: What can it do for you?
by Sau Ha LI
GROUPWARE_OVERVIEW.PS
Over the last few years, a new category of software applications has
been introduced as Groupware. This paper examines the meaning of
Groupware and how this "new generation" of software can be used in
solving some of the customers' problems.
- MAILbus 400 Setup and Troubleshooting
by Marjorie Nevins
MAILBUS_400_MTA.PS
This paper's goal is to make the installation and configuration of
MAILbus 400 easier for the end user to install and configure for the
MTA, Directory Service and various User Agents. It will include
examples of the setup of the MTA, Directory, Poste and SMTP. It will
also include how to troubleshoot problems that may occur during the
setup and configuration of MAILbus 400.
- The AIDA server
by Darrin Rogers & Frederic Challal
AIDA.PS
The ALL-IN-1 Distributed Access server (called AIDA server), allows
TeamLinks and OpenVMS clients to access ALL-IN-1 IOS and DDS Data. This
server in conjunction with the File Cabinet server is the heart of the
TeamLinks integration into ALL-IN-1. It will also be used by customers
to downsize their applications. The paper is divided into 3 major parts:
- Describe the server and client architectures,
- Troubleshooting the server,
- How to build a client application while still using the server data
- Mailbus 400 1988 MTA Routing Design
by Momena Rouf
MB400_ROUTING_DESIGN.PS
This paper delivers an introduction to a mail routing design for various
types of mail systems. The document presents to the audience the basic
concepts of MAILbus 400 and the 1988 MTA; guidelines involved on
designing a naming scheme for assigning O/R addresses; the planning
involved to embody the 1988 MTA as an Enterprise Messaging Backbone
server in a multi-mail environment platform; and a scenario customer
case that requires such a solution and configuration.
- Linkworks foreign mail exchange
by Patrizia Santisi
LINKWORKS_AND_EXTERNAL_MAIL.PS
This paper describes how LinkWorks can exchange mail with remote non
LinkWorks systems. It discusses how to set up the 'External mail'
functionality to interface UNIX mail, X.400 mail via the Mailbus 400,
and Mailbus dependant mail products (like ALL-IN-1, Teamlinks). It will
also give a description of the main limitations that will be encountered
when exchanging mail between LinkWorks and non LinkWorks systems.
