3650.1 | Type of document and file? | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Tue Dec 14 1993 11:14 | 12 |
| Some questions:
1. What type of ALL-IN-1 document are you transferring, i.e., what is
the data type and handling?
2. What type of VMS file are you creating, i.e., what file type do you
specify?
3. What version of ALL-IN-1 are you using?

3650.2 | DT SV Alternatives for DTR input file > 255 Bytes | SOLVIT::JKELLEY | | Wed Dec 15 1993 14:11 | 25 |
| 1. What type of ALL-IN-1 document are you transferring, i.e., what is
the data type and handling?
> What ALL-IN-1 gives user as result of simple LIST PROCESSING
routine. Am not sure where to look as ALL-IN-1 user to
find specifics of your question.
2. What type of VMS file are you creating, i.e., what file type do you
specify?
> Am trying to create a FIXED LENGTH seguential RMS file. Part
of my question is where in ALL-IN-1 facilities can I specify
file type, etc. Doing simple DT (document transfer) and then
SV (send to VAX) does not invite user to specify and apparently
has limit of 255 bytes per output record. My record length
need is to exceed 255 bytes.
Intent is to use the file in DATATRIEVE process.
3. What version of ALL-IN-1 are you using?
> Version 3.0

3650.3 | Document and file type | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Wed Dec 15 1993 14:27 | 10 |
| 1. Select the Document on the DT menu and type Gold-V. This will display
information about the document. What is the Data type and Handling?
2. What do you type into the VMS File Name field? The file type (e.g.
.TXT) part of the RMS File Specification specifies the type of file to
create.

3650.4 | Data type/Handling and file extension implications | SOLVIT::JKELLEY | | Wed Dec 15 1993 22:00 | 26 |
| 1. Select the Document on the DT menu and type Gold-V. This will display
information about the document. What is the Data type and Handling?
> Handling = blank; nothing displayed
> Data Type = "WPSPLUS"
2. What do you type into the VMS File Name field? The file type (e.g.
.TXT) part of the RMS File Specification specifies the type of file to
create.
> I used .TMP, not realizing the extension specifies type
of file ALL-IN-1 will create.
> What extension should I use to create an output file with
record lengths of up to 480 characters? Even better, what
would it be to make the file fixed length, if possible?
I will also try to locate in ALL-IN-1 documentation; your
quicker input will speed my project.
Thanks.

3650.5 | WPS-PLUS to ASCII conversion | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Fri Dec 17 1993 11:11 | 11 |
| A file type of .TMP will cause ALL-IN-1 to convert your WPS-PLUS document
to an ASCII file.
Record length restrictions are dependent on the type of documents being
processed, and are not imposed by ALL-IN-1. WPS-PLUS has a maximum line
length of 255 characters.
How long are the lines in your WPS-PLUS document?

3650.6 | What "type of document" then? | SOLVIT::JKELLEY | | Fri Dec 17 1993 12:31 | 9 |
| Length of line without right "r" wordwrap would be from 400 to 941
characters in length. I am trying to output a paragraph as a single
record, run results through CONVERT and end up with fixed length
records for DTR. Each of my paragraphs would become a record.
From my point of view, type of document is WPSPLUS. What do I specify
or do to get the results described thus far?
Thanks.
