3637.0. "FOR ... WRITE CHANGE in phantom data set ? (BIND)" by COPCLU::ELIN (Elin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406) Tue Dec 07 1993 12:55
A customer wants to make an index of a datafile and knows how to do it
with exact match of existing fields in the datafile.
But for each record he wants to change a field in the phantom dataset
only, without affecting the datafile, so that this field gets displayed
with another text string than the one in the file.
He wants to do this with a FOR ... WRITE CHANGE statement.
He tells that when he uses BIND, this is possible for one record,
but he cannot change multiple records that way.
When he uses BINDW, he tells that WRITE CHANGE changes both the phantom
dataset AND the datafile.
Can someone with programming experience tell me how to change multiple
records in a phantom dataset without changing the datafile?
(I have not tried to reproduce it.)
