3629.0. "upgrade and clean out assets at the sametime?" by CGOOA::HOMMEN (two tents) Sun Dec 05 1993 16:53

    Hi:

An important client is finally ready to migrate to ALL-IN-1 V3.0. As
they have been an ALL-IN-1 site for many years, they have a number of
old obsolete assets which we want to get rid of.

Is it possible to do an upgrade and clear out all the old
customizations and assets cleanly? I.E. do a fresh install, but drag
over all the user profiles, accounts and similar data.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi there,

Yes this sort of thing is possible to do but it would require a significant
amount of "hacking" by an ALL-IN-1 expert to extract all the relevant file
conversions etc. from the installation's postinstallation procedure and then
manually convert files. The complexity of the process would also depend on
whether you want to preserve all of the system's data, e.g. if you have stuff
in CM that you want to keep etc. All this is totally unsupported of course!

Perhaps a manual tidy up would be easier?

Cheers,
	Chris.

Sigh... Nothing is ever simple is it?

So then, I must simply do the upgrade, and then do a seek and destroy
on any files that are not listed as part of the normal V.3.0 kit?

    Krys,

what are the ASSETS - if they're in CM then you can just remove them
from live etc.... it all depends on who wrote them and when - you
friendly local CSC is always open for advice on this sort of stuff

	Hi,

You can use the Conflict Analysis and Resolution Tool (CART).
It will give you a good idea what is standard what is not.

	To execute the tool:

		$ @sys$update:vmsinstal a1030

from the menu chose option RC

	That's it.
