I have an extensive list of customers Internet addresses that I have put into a distribution list, called @EDU. The format for these names from ALL-IN-1 is: "[email protected]"@INTERNET "[email protected]"@INTERNET This naming scheme seems to work fine when I send a message to a few addressees. The problem lately is when I try to use @EDU with 60+ names on it. This has worked in the past even though customers complained about having to read through the entore distribution list before getting to the message. I now get a message from ALL-IN-1 within 10 minutes stating: "ALL-IN-1 was unable to send your message off node posted on Message titled: DECnews for Education & Research. REASON: %EMD-I-SEND_COUNT_EXCE, SENDER re-try count exceeded Any local deliveries have been made" Are there any ALL-IN-1 rules about the number of Internet addressees that can be sent at one time? Any other suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks...KC

What has happened is that for some reason Message Router has not been able to aceept the message as built by ALL-IN-1. There should be info in the Mail Mgt Guide on how to track down the problem, but quickly: Manager will have had had a mail message showing the .NBS filenames; run mrnbsdmp on them; There should be error messages in oa$mti_err, and in mrerr.inf That should narrow down the cause of the problem considerably. btw, no there is no (intentional!) limit. grahame | |||||

The "@INTERNET" syntax is probably just a nicety on your node which is expanded by Message Router into something like "@DECWRL@MRGATE" (Try MCR MRMAN then SHOW INTERNET) But that's all by-the-way; follow Grahame's suggestions in .1 to try and track down the problem. As long as "@INTERNET" is understood by your local Message Router, there's no reason why ALL-IN-1 should be unable to send the mail if other mail is working fine. Scott |
