Hopefully this is easy... My customer has one VMS account that has 50 ALL-IN-1 accounts tied to it. They want to rename the VMS account to a new name, but leave the ALL-IN-1 account names as they are currently. I've looked at the Rename Account option in ALL-IN-1, and tried it, but it seems to be geared towards renaming the ALL-IN-1 accounts. I'm afraid pointers may be lost if we simply get into authorize and rename the VMS account. Does anyone know how I should do this? Perhaps it's simpler than I'm anticipating. Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen, Could you supply us with version of ALL-IN-1 you are using? (V3.0 with shared filing does not really like ALL-IN-1 accounts to share a VMS account!) Cheers DaveT

Yes, this is version 3.0 of ALL-IN-1. I thought I read something about the shared filing but couldn't remember where. If this helps, there is very little file cabinet use by the users. A few mail messages get sent but are script controlled. The user accounts are locked into a custom bulletin board subsystem that uses NOTES, and each ALL-IN-1 account has read access to a public drawer (owned and maintained by a separate account) that has CBR search capability. Does this help? Thanks, Karen
3600.3 | XE not RNA | IOSG::TYLDESLEY | Tue Nov 30 1993 18:14 | 22
Well, it pays to read the base note carefully! I reread your note and realized that it is a lot simpler than we both thought. Because you are concerned only in changing the VMS account name, then you do not use Rename at all. I did the following: I set up three ALL-IN-1 accounts: TEST1, TEST2 & TEST3, all based on VMS account TEST1. I then did MGT MUA I {build index of accounts TEST*} ALL XE. As each account came up in turn I edited the SM$PROFILE form at the VMS account details: Account name: field, to an ~~already existing~~ VMS account (TESTY). (It really is only determining the login access to the VMS system, and doesn't affect the directory in which the ALL-IN-1 files are held.) This worked nicely, if a little time-consuming, and then all 3 ALL-IN-1 accounts pointed to the same VMS login account. I went into a/c TESTY, and did $allin/user=TEST3 and it all worked perfectly. I think this is what you need to do. Let me know if I have misunderstood. Cheers DaveT

Yes you understood it correctly. I'm leaving the directory names alone and need only to change the VMS account. I'll try to implement it tonight on the customer machine and will post a reply only if I have problems. What you've said sounds straight forward to me. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
