3585.0. "Format mail message with '@'" by KERNEL::OTHENJ () Thu Nov 25 1993 11:06

Hello,

Has anyone seen this before/ any ideas on workarounds?

The customer wants to format his mail message out to vms, when they will be
sending the .lis file to a fax application. The customer is using the
following command.

<format "@oa$curmes" "test.lis","LN03",9,0,1,0,1

Using the @ sign should format all attachments with the mail mail message
itself. This works until there is a TDE diagram in one of the attachments.
The format command results in a COMMENT line being inserted at the start
and end of the picture.

i.e.

<ESC>[450d<ESC>[0`here is the first line before the picture
<ESC>[500d<ESC>[0`A COMMENT block of text is positioned here

When the document is printed out, the COMMENT line is included before and
after the drawing.

The customer has found on further testing that this problem only occurs
when he uses the @ sign - if he formats each attachment seperately (and
therefore leaves out the @ sign), the TDE digram is formatted without the
COMMENT block.

Is there any way around this? The customer is using ALL-IN-1 v3.0, and I
can reproduce the output on v3.0-1.

	Thanks,

			Julie

I don't know of any other workaround except for the one the customer has
found of individually formatting each attachment. However, this is
probably a better way of formatting the complete message.

In ALL-IN-1 V2.0, V2.1 and V2.2 a Print operation used a similar method for
formatting messages with attachments. This resulted in:

    1. The message and all attachments being formatted by the WPS-PLUS
formatter, even when the data type or handling of some attachments
indicated they should be formatted with other formatters.

    2. A single WPS-PLUS format operation was performed (with one set of
WPS-PLUS Print Settings). If different WPS-PLUS attachments had
different WPS-PLUS Print Settings some attachments were formatted
differently from when formatted individually with their own Print
	Settings.

    3. The end of one attachment and the beginning of the next attachment
could be put on the same page resulting in the rest of the current
	attachment being badly formatted.

Because of the above problems ALL-IN-1 V2.3 and all subsequent versions
have individually formatted each attachment.

Please submit an SPR for the COMMENT block problem.
