3573.0. "DECWRITE under ALL-IN-1 V3.0" by GRANMA::RSHEINBERG (Reda,COP,DTN:339-5387) Wed Nov 24 1993 04:14

As I entered in the DECWRITE notes file:

              <<< GALVIA::WRT1$:[NOTES$LIBRARY]DECWRITE.NOTE;9 >>>
-< You can't go wrong with DECwrite >-

Note 4645.0 DECWRITE for ALL-IN-1 V3.0 anyone? No replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a customer that used DECwrite under DECwindows for ALL-IN-1 product with
ALL-IN-1 V2.3. When they were trying to upgrade from ALL-IN-1 V2.3 to V3.0 the
support for the DECwindows for ALL-IN-1 support went away. However they still
wanted to use DECwrite so they took several scripts from the DECwindows product
that allow you to edit with DECwrite if your document format as DDIF,.DOTS. The
script runs as it is referenced from the DECwrite, DDIF, DOTS, format record.
Except for some file cabinet delete problems the customer claims they are ableVAX
to use DECwrite from he appropriate VAXstation. They need help because they are
having a problem with the wrong documents being deleted which I so far believe
is unrelated to DECWRITE at least from the Trace we ran. I'm assuming as this customer is
is in Indiana and I'm in DC. Apparently all the ALL-IN-1 people in that part of the
coountry were transitioned. They told me the hotline said they couldn't help them
because the DECwindows for ALL-IN-1 product is notsupported anymore.

My questions: is anyone out there useing DECwrite under ALL-IN-1 V3.0? If so
so how are you implementing this? Has anyone worked with the MICA scripts, I
believe MICA$DECWRITE.SCP and MICA$DECWRITE_EXIT.scp and used them in V3.0?

THanks

    Reda,

MICA has apparently been made to work in some form with v3.0 as there
is a customer in the Chicago area that claimed at one time to have it
running - I will not mention their name for fear that one of the sales
support people gets upset with me!.

I have also heard of one customer in Europe who got it working at least
in german but I don't know whether the people in Germany who did the
work are still with us - Stefan, Fritz, Helmut may know the names.

The latest ALL-IN-1 blurb being given by Steve Martin at DECUS this
week appartently contains some plans for MOTIF but since this isn't a
futures conference I can't say anymore - maybe you could ask Nigel Dutt

    P.S who's the customer

    Regards,

    Hello Andrew and Reda,

if I remember correctly, Corporation decided not to support the MICA
product any longer. Since we had many customers using it in Germany, a
group in Frankfurt decided to create (at least) a German solution. Then
the German G.m.b.H. declared them redundant and the work was passed
over to a very small group in Munich. The last thing I heard was that
they also have lost some people and will not be able to complete the
work on "MICA". Somebody from Munich might know more details.

sorry, don't know the end of the story
