3557.0. "Hidden OAFC$SEVER starter !" by BIS1::DESTRIJCKER (Back again to the home town) Mon Nov 22 1993 08:24

    Hi all,

I wonder who could enlighten me with the following.

The reorganise system files housekeeping procedure has been failing now
for quite a while. It converts DAF_A and B but fails on C and E because
the file is currently locked by another user. All good and well but who
or even what could possibly start the Filecabinet server without
producing an OAFC$SERVER_STARTUP.LOG in oa$log? Yet the
SYS$MANAGER:OAFC$SERVER.LOG shows that it has been started while RSF
    was running.

Does it mean that FC has been started without running ALL-IN-1? Is that
at all possible? Also this is only happening on ONE of the three nodes
in the cluster consistently week after week.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Wivine.

3557.1Something else starting FCS ?IOSG::STANDAGEMon Nov 22 1993 09:2414

    Wivine,

I know some customers have a process which checks for the existence of
the FCS process, and if it's not there a batch job automatically
restarts it - might be worth checking out. Other than that, the only
way to restart the FCS is to run A1V30START.COM.

Are you sure the FCS is being shutdown properly in the first place. Is
the FC Startup message actually appearing whilst IOS is "shutdown" ??

    Kevin.

3557.2Oh but why ?BIS1::DESTRIJCKERBack again to the home townMon Nov 22 1993 15:5017
    Kevin,

Yes, that is a definate possibility. Hence that I want to find out what
could start FCS without creating the file oa$log:oafc$server_startup.log?
When running the script OA$LIB:SM_FC_SERVER_START from within ALLIN1
isn't that file created? You see, by the time the housekeeping
procedure finishes about half an hour later, it starts the file cabinet
servers for all 3 nodes in the cluster except for one where it says
"Server process already exists". And I can't find what does it.

Maybe I should go and have a look in SMREORG.COM.

I'll let you know what I find.

    Thanks for the response.

    Wivine.
