3547.0. "Strange problem in ALL-IN-1 script." by HTSC19::SIMONLAU () Thu Nov 18 1993 08:28

    Hi,

    A customer running ALL-IN-1 V2.3 on VMS V5.5-2 use a lot of ALL-IN-1
    script programs to customerize his applications. Here below is a
    strange problem he encountered :

    A text file HEADER.TXT and a PC WordPerfect document 00005350.ATT
    was converted into ASCII WPS handling via WP DT RV in ALL-IN-1.
    ( the customer has to do it by RV, NOT RVC due to application needs ).

    And then, an ordinary ALL-IN-1 mail was created with HEADER.TXT (after
    DT RV) being the 1st attachment and 00005350.ATT (after DT RV) being
    the 2nd attachment, and this mail was sent:

    first mail
    ----------
     To : ZZZ1,ZZZ2,ZZZ7
     CC : ZZZ3,ZZZ8
     { 1st attachemnt: HEADER.TXT
       2nd attachment: 00005350.ATT }

    (where ZZZ7 and ZZZ8 both are remote users)

    Just after that another ALL-IN-1 mail was created and this time with
    HEADER.TXT as attachment only, and this mail was sent:

    second mail
    -----------
     To : ZZZ1,ZZZ2,ZZZ7
     { Attachment: HEADER.TXT}

    (where ZZZ7 is a remote user)

    When an ALL-IN-1 script program READ.SCP ( to read the mails )was then run
    in batch mode by user ZZZ1, it cause the process crash with access
    violation when reading the second mail.

    What we've found so far, is that the access violation occurrance
    has something related to the (1) no. of recipients of the mail and
    (2) no. and type of document attached. One point to note is that if
    the mails are read inside ALL-IN-1, no problem at all. Besides, same
    situation found in ALL-IN-1 V2.4.

    The following files ( total 5 ) were prepared and locate in

                 23535::$255$DUA4:[SIMONLAU.QA0025]

    . HEADER.TXT and 00005350.ATT source (before WP DT RV),
    . READ.SCP = ALL-IN-1 script which is running when access violation
      occurred,
    . A1TRACE.LOG = ALL-IN-1 trace,
    . ZZZ1 = log file of the batch job that contains register dump.

    P.S. The problem described has been studied over weeks, and its just a
         simplified version of the original problem in the production site
         of the customer.

    I understand it would be a little bit too far for us, but we really need
    your assistance desperately.

    Your input would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.
    Simon
