3541.0. "Nicknames cause Editor/and or ALL-IN-1 to abort" by GUIDUK::MCKAY (Down another rat hole...) Tue Nov 16 1993 19:27

    I am getting bizarre behaviour when creating mail which is addressed to
    more than 1 person using nicknames. After entering 2 nicknames into
    the TO: section, tabbing down to the subject line and entering some
    text, ALL-IN-1 drops me into my editor which promptly blows up. If the
    editor is EDT, then I am back at the main EM menu with a message
    saying: ERROR DETECTED FROM EDITOR.

    If I have the editor set to EVE_EDT, then I receive a fatal VAXTPU
    internal error (PC location 00A7DCC0), some additional error messages
    from VAXTPU (memory deallocation failure), and I am dropped out of
    ALL-IN-1 completely!

    This does not seem to happen if I have one nickname on the TO line, and
    the second on the CC line.

    It is easily reproducable, but doesn't always seem to occurr at exactly
    the same point.

    I am running ALL-IN-1 V3.0, OA$DDS_PRIME=2,

    Any/all help is greatly appreciated. The customer is a new large account for
    Digital and they want to use nicknames.

    Thanks,

3541.1Trace file locationGUIDUK::MCKAYDown another rat hole...Thu Nov 18 1993 17:058
    Since I don't know much about ALL-IN-1, I can't interpret the trace I
    created of this situation, but if someone more knowledgable could help,
    the trace file is located at: GUIDUK::DISK$11:[MCKAY.TEMP]A1TRACE.LOG

    If you search for DWC, the errors start to occurr shortly after this
    nickname was added.

    Any/all help is greatly appreciated.
3541.2SWAG - Sequential Nicknames file?IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeTue Nov 23 1993 18:166
    I haven't looked at the trace, but is the nicknames file indexed? It's easy
    to go to DCL and edit it, and the, then, sequential file can break things.
    I'm surprised if it would look like that though. Is there anything odd
    about these nicknames? Strange characters, long addresses etc?

3541.3very simple nicknames usedGUIDUK::MCKAYDown another rat hole...Tue Nov 30 1993 00:5114
    The nicknames are quite straight forward, eg nickname TE has the mail
    address Tim Eng. The oanicknames.dat file is an indexed file, there
    has been no attempt to edit this file. The only "non-standard" setup
    is that we use an initialization script to automatically import any new
    VMS mail into All-In-1 upon inital entry into All-In-1. I have seen
    where this script has caused access violations in other areas (eg
    sender/fetcher command procedures failed, until I placed a check for
    IF OA$USER = "POSTMASTER", then don't execute the script).

    Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Paul

        Since OA$DDS_PRIME is set to 2, I'd guess that the bad block
        address in the FOR loop below might indicate a corrupt DDS
        database? Turning trace on, so that command line input and symbol
        translation occured might be more help, next time.
