3519.0. "Customer Requests. Can Digital Help???" by ZPOVC::CHIKLIAK () Wed Nov 10 1993 11:31

Hi,

I need help from those whom might have face these requests from customer and
what can we do to help them, if any.

ALL-IN-1 IOS V2.4
Pathworks For VMS V4.1
Pathworks For DOS V4.1
WordPerfect For VMS V5.0
Integration For A1 V2.0

Customer Environment :-
====================

 1) All users access ALL-IN-1 from their PCs.
 2) All users uses the terminal emulation that comes with Pathworks.
 3) Users use the IBM Enhanced 101-key keyboard.
 4) VAX/VMS WordPerfect is the default editor for ALL-IN-1.
 5) Keyboard mapping is done using KBDEPC.KBD DOS file. This file has been
    customized to map PC KF1 = DEC KF7 through PC KF10 = DEC KF18.
 4) Printing is done with the Alternate Print Script.

Customer Requests For Help/Questions :-
====================================

 1) Customer wants to customize EVERY screen in ALL-IN-1 to reflect terminology
in PC terms. They want to know whether we have a checklist of .FRM names
that include the term GOLD, PF1, PF2, PF3, PF4, Next Screen, Previous
    Screen, Find and Return.

Q1) Do we have such a list?
Customer question : Does DEC supply a patch program to replace all the
                        above screens?
Is that a better way to customize it to reflect terminology in PC terms?

 2) Customer is unable to find a solution to use PC keyboard's Shift, Alt &
CTRL function keys, because SETHOST emulation does not allow you to map
    certain key(s).

Q2) Are there any programs in the market that you know will map PF1, PF2, PF3
keys to the PC's Shift, Ctrl, Alt keys?
Is anyone using such a program or package?

Q3) Can Digital recommend/suggest a range of non_DEC printers compatible with
    ALL-IN-1?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Hi CT,

Q1) Do we have such a list?
Customer question : Does DEC supply a patch program to replace all the
                        above screens?
Is that a better way to customize it to reflect terminology in PC terms?

A1) I would suggest to look for a solution at the PC client !

Is anyone using such a program or package?

a2) There are a lot a such programs. Reflection is a terminal emulation package
which many customers use. At a customers site (ALL-IN-1 V2.4, Lotus 1-2-3
    for ALL-IN-1, WordPerfect V5.2 VMS+ALL-IN-1 integration) I implemented
Reflection V4+. Users at this site can use the normal PC WordPerfect and
Lotus 1-2-3 keyboard layout when working with WordPerfect or Lotus under
ALL-IN-1. For normal ALL-IN-1 use, I remapped the PC keyboard in such a way
that's almost a LK250 keyboard. Last but not least automatic keyboardlayout
switching; when entering Wordperfect or Lotus the appropriate layout is
automaticaly loaded, also on exiting the normal ALL-IN-1 layout is
    automaticaly reloaded.

Q3) Can Digital recommend/suggest a range of non_DEC printers compatible with
    ALL-IN-1?

A3) Are our printer not good enough ? Be also aware that most of these non_DEC
    printers are not officialy supported

Reagrds,

Martin
