3488.0. "A little bit complicated problem." by HTSC19::SIMONLAU () Wed Nov 03 1993 06:53

    Hi,

    A customer runing ALL-IN-1 V2.3 on VMS V5.4 encountered a "access
violation" problem months ago. After study, the problem was suspected
to be caused by a known problem in ALL-IN-1 V2.3 (Patch K510:A1PAT510MERGE
    - Long addresses (>512 bytes) can cause access violation), which would be
corrected/solved by applying the patch CSCPAT_3000 (Cumulative ECO).
After the patch was applied, the prblem's gone and everythings seems
fine and carried on. But in a recent upgrade of the VMS from 5.4 to
    5.5-2, the same problem re-appeared !

It seems that ALL-IN-1 v2.3 is not supposed to be run on VMS 5.5-2
( please confirm me that), the only proper suggestion I can think of is
to upgrade to ALL-IN-1 v2.4 or v3.0. But questions followed as listed
below need your advice and idea:

    - I'm not so sure that : Is the effect of the patch applied removed by
      the VMS upgrade ?

    - Customer query : Are we sure after upgrade of ALL-IN-1 to V2.4 or
V3.0 the problem will be solved ??

    - Is it possible to upgrade to ALL-IN-1 V3.0 from V2.3 directly ?

      My personal question:

    - What would you suggest the customer to do on the situation as described ?

Your input would be much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

    Best regards
    Simon

    Hi Simon,

I won't be able to answer all your questions, but after all you've a start.

>> It seems that ALL-IN-1 v2.3 is not supposed to be run on VMS 5.5-2

There's a STARS article with title "[ALL-IN-1] Compatibility Matrix".
In this article you'll find all supported combinations of ALL-IN-1,
    WPS-PLUS, FMS, VMS and MR.

Your combination of ALL-IN-1 V2.3 and VMS V5.5-2 is supported.

    ALL-IN-1______WPS-PLUS______VMS________MR_________FMS______

    V2.3 V3.0 V5.5-2 V3.2 V2.4

But do you also have FMS V2.4 and MR V3.2 ?

>> Is it possible to upgrade to ALL-IN-1 V3.0 from V2.3 directly ?

Yes, Upgrade from V2.3 to V3.0 is a supported upgrade path.

>> What would you suggest the customer to do on the situation as described ?

Upgrade to the latest ALL-IN-1 version, e.g. V3.0

Martin

    Simon,

I'm not sure why your customers problem reappearred after the VMS
upgrade - I don't recall this being reported before but v2.3 is a very
    long time ago.

I agree with Martin get to v3.0 as quickly as possible.
