3424.0. "problems with WPL.A1$MSG" by GIDDAY::BURT (Plot? What plot? Where?) Thu Oct 21 1993 08:36

Hello and greetings,

Customer is running ALL-IN-1 V3.0, with, he assures me (!) the US language and
market component and the US_GB dialect. Which is correct for Australia.

Customer recently upgraded to ALL-IN-1 v3.0 - has found that all dictionaries
etc are incorrect. They are defaulting to American rather than British personal.
When the users to a Change Master Dictionary, the British Personal is created,
empty.

He attempted to modify OA$_WPL_SPL_DEFAULT_LAND from American to British
(WPL.A1$MSG) CM, moved it to live & compile it - the compile didn't work,
according to Mr Customer, though no error was generated
- the value of OA$_WPL_SPL_DEFAULT_LAND remained unchanged.

He ended up doing the change from DCL, so all his users didn't have to gold
get their dictionaries from American into British personal.

The customer wants to know:
1. Why aren't the dictionaries created correctly?
2. Why were there problems with the compile?

Help Please.

Thanks & regards,

Chele

    Chele,

Well I don't do WPS-PLUS so i'll skip the dictionaries question and
move right along to the cM one. What does the customer mean by the
compile didn't work? it either says it compiled or it didn't?

anyway surely they have to restart ALL-IN-1 to see the new message
since the message symbol files are installed OpenVMS Global Sections?
[OpenVMS manual no 23, chapter 17. page 327 middle paragraph (:==:)]

    Regards,

'lo again,

The customer is specifying the whole files spec,
ie disk$allin1:[allin1.site.sources_british]wpl.a1$msg, but for some reason
ALL-IN-1 isn't actually looking to compile that file, it would appear to be
inordinately attracted to the idea of looking in
disk$allin1:[allin1.sources_british].

    That file disk$allin1:[allin1.site.sources_british]wpl.a1$msg doesn't
    exist. It should be
    disk$allin1:[allin1.site.sources_british]SITEwpl.a1$msg

    Maybe that's the problem?

Hi Mike,

The customer didn't have a version of SITEWPL.A1$MSG anywhere. I had him
rename disk$allin1:[allin1.site.sources_british]wpl.a1$msg to
disk$allin1:[allin1.site.sources_british]SITEwpl.a1$msg, and the compile
worked fine.

I'm curious to know where the wpl.a1$msg may have come from?

Thanks & regards,

Chele

    chele,

WPL.A1$MSG is the base non-customisable message file, SITE$WPL.A1$MSG
is the initially empty site customisable version

You're now in a mess since you have WPL.A1$MSG in the site area and
    no SITE$WPL.A1$MSG to match it.

You should have 28 .A1$MSG files in OA$BUILD_ENGLISH, 14 base ones
    and 14 site ones.

    regards,
